Star Wars Trilogy DVD Box Set: $30AR / Free Shipping (Preorder)

Star Wars Trilogy DVD box set is $49.99 at coconuts.com (brand new site, just opened). This is the widescreen version (and why would you want this in foolscreen anyway?). Use promotion code FIRSTPURCHASE at checkout for 10% off and free shipping.

There's a $15 rebate available here. It's also linked from the main Coconuts.com page. TransWorld rebates are very reliable and ship quickly (handled by Parago).

Here is their statement on charging for preorders:

When will my credit card be charged?
Since we don't think you should pay for your order until it is actually on its way, we will not bill you until your products, including backordered or preordered items, are actually shipped.
And on sales tax:

Coconuts.com must charge tax in all states except:
Hawaii, Idaho and Montana
Nice deal on what is probably the most highly anticipated, debated, berated, and possibly hated DVD release of all time. Please, though--let's keep the Lucas-bashing elsewhere; this is a deal forum.

I'd be wary. I bought season 1 & 2 of 24 hoping to take advantage of their rebates. (making them $20 a set). Well, they require the actual UPC, season 1 had a nice insert that can be cut up easily, but I'm not going to butcher a box set (season 2) for a measly $15. They can keep it. Took it back to the store.

So the question would be of the kind wondering if there will be an insert on the back or just the box.

I'm gonna skip. Thanks though.

Michael, Transworld accepts the price stickers on the outside of the shrinkwrap for the "original UPC". Their stores all use the UPC code right on the same sticker. Many people on the forum (myself included) have done these without any hassle.

If this is anything like the Indy Jones set, there should be a paper insert with the UPC as well..

Just a heads-up.

Tempting, but not worth it. I'm holding out until someone who hates the changes even more than I do sells it for like $20. That's the most I'd pay for the "adulterated" Original Trilogy.

Call me lazy, but I'll more than likely just buy it at one of the "usual" places on release day, like Wally, Target, BB, or CC.
Since this is a release my wife and I really want, we're not going to jump through alot of hoops to get five or ten bucks off.

I hate cutting up the UPC as much as the next. That's why, I'd pay the $5 extra on release day and pick it up from any TWEC store. But make sure you pre-order so you have the $49.99 + Tax - $15 MIR locked in.

Nice deal. Thanks. The extra 10% off should make this as competitive a deal as any we'll see on release day.

And I'll confirm that their rebate system is the best I've seen and shouldn't deter anyone from ordering.

But can we get the link DVDTalk-ified?

I was gonna do it, but even with free shipping, they want to charge me 3.15 sales tax which would be $33.51 after rebate/stamp.

I think I will stick with my $32.29 Amazon pre-order.

Is the $32.29 Amazon total using STL?

Yes, the STL 10% and the ecard VISA I used that gave me another 5% off.

Thanks for the info. That's a great deal and no rebate to deal with either. I'd stick with that also.

Which bank/company is your ecard VISA through? If it always gives 5% off at Amazon, I'd like to sign up for that!

It was with BankOne but unfortunately, they ended the program on June 1 of this year. I stopped using it after June 1, but before I did I bought an Amazon Gift Card with the e-card VISA and got the 5% off the purchase of that and then applied the card to the preorder since it would have been charged after the 6/1/04 date.

It was a great program while it lasted but now I am just using the Amazon VISA for Amazon purchases since they give you $30 and then you earn a $25 Amazon gc for every $833 you spend there which is better than any of my 1% cash back credit cards.

'eh. An hour of work I guess. All I'm saying is that I'd rather spend my money elsewhere than to cut up boxes in my collection for cash.

I pre-ordered at Amazon a while back with STL, I'm just waiting to hear if BB will be doing some kind of bonus disc like Indy. Might have to cancel if that is the case.

Well... out here in the middle of the Pacific the cheapest shipping option is Second Day Air at $19.95, even with the FIRSTPURCHASE coupon. Perhaps they use UPS Ground... the Post Office ships cheap to Hawaii (media mail), it just takes forever.

Thanks anyway.

Did you select "budget" shipping? You have to pick that in order to get free shipping.

It appears Coconuts.com is Buy.com. I'm not exactly sure how, as they don't stock the same inventory, but the email headers and even the order confirmation itself is exactly the same as Buy's.

You're right--it looks like they may be using buy.com for fulfillment and shipping. Any other correspondence I've had so far (customer service related) has come from twec.com, though.

I only had 2 shipping choices- 2nd day and Overnight. I was not offered a "budget" option.

If it's buy.com then it won't work. They refuse to ship DVDs to Hawaii using USPS. I don't know why. I wrote 16 plus emails arguing this with them back in March 2001, and all they would say is that it's their policy to air ship to HI and they don't think US Priority Mail can get to us.

I'll probably end up getting this via Amazon using some of my Amazon Visa gift certificates. With free shipping too. Take that Buy.com! :shakesfist:

Yeah it seems like buy.com doesn't want business from Hawaii. I e-mailed them about their ridiculous shipping prices to Hawaii when they have free shipping to continental US, compared them with the free shipping from Amazon, but the customer service drone just gave a canned reply repeating their shipping policy that's on the website.
