Details of Star Trek: TOS Season 1 Best BuyBonus Disc

Best Buy has put up an order page for Season 1 of "Star Trek" and as the case with all the other series they have a bonus disc.

This is what it contains:
Bonus DVD featurette "Kiss 'N' Tell: Romance in the 24th Century"
William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Walter Koenig and others take a fun look at the many romantic relationships seen on the series.

Bonus DVD featurette "Trek Connections"
Instead of a regular Trekker trivia-style game, this six degrees of separation text/photo featurette offers links between cast, crew and guest stars to other films and TV shows, eventually circling back to an original series episode.

It's $129.99 there, but it should be $99.99 when it is released.

I wish Star Trek boxsets weren't so overpriced. I would have bought TNG and DS9 by now.

Buy them used, I never paid for them $68 for any of the DS9 seasons and all of them were in excellent condition.

If Best Buy lowers their price to $99.99 on the release date (which they probably will) that would come to $108.24 (including 8.25% tax) in my area. Since I paid a total of $76.04 at Amazon.com (STL, free shipping, no tax) I can't possibly see myself paying an extra $32.20 for a bonus disc with two little featurettes. I'm a Star Trek fan but not that much of a Star Trek fan.

There is no way those silly featurettes are worth the extra expense over STL. Even my dad, an ardent fan, would pass this over.

The best way to go is to wait for Fry's to have it on sale for around $79.99 and pricematch it down to $77.99 at Best Buy + the bonus disc.

That seems like the way to go.

Probably a no go. BB would consider the bonus disc to be a separate offer.

They pricematched the Indiana Jones set for me with the extra disk. If an ad beats the Amazon STL price, it's worth trying at least.

Why is it impossible to discuss prices on the Trek sets without someone complaining that they are overpriced? I mean, if you have information on a better price than the one listed (Amazon STL for example) fine, but otherwise, I say give it a rest.

For the record though, I agree that this particular "bonus" hardly seems worth the extra money.

I don't know if this deserves a new thread, but what are the chances of a special set with all the seasons of the original series being released?

They are releasing all three seasons together on December 14, the same day the 3rd season is released. As far as i know no specs for this set have been released and it is unknown if this is just three seasons shrink wrapped together or if there are any additional features exclusive to the mega set.

Star Trek The Original Series - The Complete Seasons 1-3 (1966)

Amazon's price for the complete set is $245.67 with STL, and the price for buying the three seasons separately is $239.82 with STL -- $76.04 for S1, and $81.89 each for S2 and S3. So if there are extras on the complete set worth more than $5.85, it's a better deal.

I remember seeing the TNG 'bonus' disks going for what a season set would cost on eBay a while back.

I have no doubt that if you bought all three (3) sets from BB and posted the three (3) 'bonus' disks on eBay a short time later you could easily get the three (2) season sets for the price of two (2).

I just saw this coming Sunday's ads for Best Buy and Target.

Star Trek Season One is:

$99.99 at Target

$106.99 at Best Buy

I'm hoping Circuit City beats 'em both.

I just cancelled my STL Amazon order a couple days back, when I read about the exclusive BB extras.

I regretted *not* getting my TNG sets thru BB for the extra discs, and still covet the darn things...

On the other hand, I felt like a complete tool buying the DS9 sets there, for the sake of the bonus discs, when they were $20 cheaper across the street at Costco...

*Sigh* It's a lose/lose situation. Fuck you, Paramount & BB.

OK. I've reordered my set thru Amazon STL again.

I'm trying to be strong.

BTW -- If you want to buy from a brick&mortor on Tuesday other than BB... Costco online shows $84.99 -- a good indication that theirs will be the price to beat, as usual, while supplies last.

So are all price matches off at BB since no other retailer will have the bonus discs inside? Seems that would be the best deal if you get the Costco pm + the bonus dvd at BB.

I pricematched several time at BB for TNG and DS9 sets using a Fry's ad. Each time I got the set with a bonus disk and it was not a problem. As always though, YMMV.

I wish there were Fry's in this area, just so that I could get their ads for PMs.

Does anyone know if the ST:TOS season 1 bonus DVD will be shrinkwrapped to the side of the box and if so is the product UPC exactly the same as what you'd find at other retailers? Or will the bonus DVD be a separate item that appears separately on the receipt?

Regardless how it's available, you never know what success you'll have with pricematching at Best Buy. They've often refused to pricematch for reasons I consider bogus, so most of the time I just go straight to the other store rather than try to deal with Best Buy. Now they've changed the Reward Zone rules just after I rejoined, so I'll probably have to get a refund on that and I expect they'll make it difficult to get my $5 coupon back too.

IIRC, the Star Trek boxes that contain the "Bonus DVD" have their own unique UPC code.

[Edit - Actually, I think the boxes themselves are the same, but the Bonus DVD is shrinkwrapped to the box with a paper slip advertising the bonus disc that covers up the regular UPC and replaces it with its own UPC.]

Well, I price-matched Indy at BB for the crappy bonus disc, so I'm going to give it a try for Old School Trek.

The big question is: will the 3 Season Mega-Set have all 3 bonus discs bundled in with it? Am I better off getting the sets one at a time, or getting them all at once?
