Titanic @ Walmart for $16.84 (YMMV)

Price at my WalMart (Cranberry Township, PA) was $16.84. That beats Circuit City, which I thought had the lowest price at $17.99. Nothing online can beat that, according to the results I got at dvdpricesearch, where the best deal is DDD for $21.54.

At $16.84, WalMart was saying I saved $3.12, so their regular price will be $19.96.

I know Walmarts often vary in price. What other prices are people finding?

And speaking of finding, we know what an "event" this release is, but no one else seems to. No Titanic display at the front of the store. Instead, there was that drivel "Bewitched." Back in electronics, Titanic wasn't even on the new release end cap of the dvd aisle. It wasn't even in the new release area around the corner. It was back in alphabetical order.

That just confirms to me that Cameron waited too long to issue this. The time for a SE was a couple years ago. Also, I think it's being issued at the wrong time of year. Too much competition with other big releases right now.

Change that to YMWV.

Your Mileage Will Vary.

I don't care if Circuit City is built on top of the Wal Mart in my area, Titanic will be around $25 there.

Does Fry's have a "bring a store to my town" sign-up sheet on their website?

While I have to disagree about him waiting too long to release it, I do agree that this was not promoted well and released in between 2 weeks of big releases -- Batman last week and Episode III next week.

What I want to know is, how the hell can Walmart use their "Always Low Prices, Always" slogan while their own stores vary so much in price?

I didn't even know they did prices ending in ".99".

Not trying to pick on the OP...but walmart threads on new titles are pretty worthless.
The prices vary from store to store...so the couple of folks that live within a reasonable distance of a "find" are the only ones the benefit. It's too much of a niche

There is one version. 3 disc.

I know WMs seem to vary, and it's that variation I was interested in exploring a bit by finding out how much they varied among the WalMarts. We all look for the lowest price, and this is a big title this week that a lot of people are picking up. I decided to check WM before going to CC and lucked out. Looks like others won't with WM, while others who have access to Fry's will do the best, it seems.

p.s. Someone else, a mod probably, put the $16.84 price in the thread title. My original title was just "Titanic @ WalMart".

The walmarts in KC seem to look at those stores that are within driving distance of their store. If BB or CC are close by (as the case in one WM near my office) and BB has the best price of $14.99, then they will be $14.88.

What they don't seem to do is review ALL the local ads, like Neb. Furn. Mart, which is in the KC metro area. They almost always have the lowest Sunday Circular price....but WM does not take that into account when pricing locally.

So if I say WM in Overland Park, KS has $14.99....how many members really benefit from that information?

$14.99 at my Wal-Mart. Originally it was $19.99, but the clerk at Wal-Mart pulled out the Omaha, NE Nebraska Furniture Mart ad, and said that she could match that price for me.

Didn't even bother stopping by my crappy Wal*Mart. Just PM'd the $17.99 CC sale price at BB and used a $3 Monopoly piece to get it for $14.99.

Hassle-free.

9.99 at my local FYE after a $10 MIR. And this time the rebate does not require you to cut out the UPC from the box since it is on a separate piece of paper you just separate from the box.
