Even Lower Rates with Blockbuster Online!!!!
I just entered my first paid month with Blockbuster Online yesterday after a couple free trial months and noticed that I was only charged $14.99 + tax. I thought maybe I was special but then I received an e-mail today containing the following:

Lower rates guaranteed through 2005!
As of Dec. 22, 2004*, pay only $14.99 a month plus applicable tax to enjoy up to three DVDs out at a time. This low rate is guaranteed not to increase through Jan. 31, 2006, as long as you keep your membership in good standing.

*Price effective for current BLOCKBUSTER Online members on their first monthly billing date following 12/22/04.

So far I would say Walmart's free trial sucks. I signed up Saturday morning at 1 am, my 2 dvd's didn't ship till Monday and as of Wednesday nothing yet.

I had good luck with Wal-Mart DVD Rental. I was able to rent 10 DVDs in the one month trial period. Turn around time was fine. I cancelled with no problems or charges.

I also found Intelliflix to be okay too. Customer service replied to all my inquiries within a day. I was able to rent 13 DVDs in my first month (had the 3 out, $13/month plan), cancelled with no problems and no charges. The only thing I didn't like is that several of their box sets were not yet divided into single discs, and if you put one in your queue they only sent the first disc with no way to get the other discs. Customer service says they're working on it. I returned all my discs before cancelling, because I had heard stories of people being charged for missing discs.

Netflix is great, but too expensive for me to return to.
I'll try Blockbuster this month.

If anyone is updating this thread, the Gamefly trial is now only for 10 days. Also, the GameFlix service appears to be dead.

Blockbuster online has gone to crap, I signed back up thinking it would be good like when i had my free trial 3 or 4 months back but everything i put in my queue was either short wait or long wait and i put like 13 titles in my queue they weren't titles that are really popular either. I wrote them an email to cancel and credit my card back the money they charged so im hoping they will sense i havent rented anything yet. Back to netflix i go.....

gkleinman, i respect your hard work in patroling these boards for marketers. please also be mindful that sometimes consumers can experience enough frustration with one brand (in this case, blockbuster), that they throw allegiance at a competing brand ("Netflix" x3).

one way to discern my above comment from PR-lingo, is by noting its lack of tact or hints of practised seduction. nobody gets paid infiltrating these boards with such crude words from the gut. thanks for your understanding.

I signed up for Blockbuster recently and I can confirm what's been said about their declining service. What a disappointment. I used them last year and roughly 90% of the titles on my list were available, wait was 2-3 days. Now 90% of the titles are on some kind of wait and the arrival time is 4+ days. One thing that hasn't changed is their screwed up queue, again skipping over movies that are available for titles lower on the list. Also, their feature to check stores is no longer working, another inconvenience for using their coupons. Now I'll have to call around. One month and I'm out and they'll be lucky to ever get me back. I guess maybe they'e been overwhelmed with subscribers and no longer have enough discs to go around. It's too bad they don't list the availability before you sign up but then again after seeing the long wait I'm sure that's the reason they don't.

It's pretty tough logistics task, after all, they have millions of customers. I am sure they'll shape up - the competition is brutal

My first month of Netflix is coming to a close. If I cancel, will they offer me a better deal than the standard 3 out for $17.99?

For those that got the 1 year free membership link to work, has anyone else checked their history after the next billing cycle? Initially it said 2006 for the next billing date but this next billing cycle it went back to 2005.

I received an email from GameZnFlix with an offer for a 30-day free trial for joining again. It looks like anyone who has previously joined and quit could receive one also. I don't know if it is worth the hassle of joining and quitting again, though.

Yes, mine went from 2006 back to 2005 (from one year to two months) within a few days. However, I just checked, and it just went from two months to one (billing date is 1 month after I signed up) within the last few days/week. Just a heads up for anyone who enrolled under the 1 year free - check your accounts.

Mine has changed twice now. After the 1 year free sign-up, it said 5/23/2006 as the next billing date, then it changed after 5/23/2005 to say 7/23/2005 as the next billing date.

I printed out a hard copy each time it changed. I'm not going to rock the boat until they actually charge me.
