Re: DC partners with Walmart
Yeah, I feel like the #4s had just arrived, and boom, all the #5s showed up the same day.
|
Re: DC partners with Walmart
FYI - Due to production issues, the 4 books will be released on the same day from now on. Probably the second or third week of the month. Once DC gets through these issues, they'll return to the staggered format (including two new titles in February).

Archie on the other hand canceled their Marvel Digest books they were releasing on Newsstands. My guess is that the price point of $6.99 was too high for this project.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
The two new titles are Flash and still undetermined 6th title iirc. I’m hoping for an anthology title.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
I'm hoping for Adventure Comics but it'll probably be Wonder Woman.

I guess I’m wrong, because the marketing geniuses at the big two never do it anymore, but I’ve always thought an anthology title marketed to kids and new readers would earn them long-term customers. Keep the stories short and geared towards current pop culture and the hot shows or movies, throw in a variety of characters and genres to expose them to the wide range of DC continuity, price it affordably. Even if you lose money short term it builds readers. |

Not yet. I've reached out to DC to get a date.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
I still haven't seen a Batman #5 in my area this month.

^ And I just found all four #6s today. All the older stuff was gone.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
I finally got Batman #5.

Haven't seen any issue 6 in my area

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Right after finding Batman #5, today I found all four #6 issues.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Found all issue #6. Also, Marvel has released new 3-packs of recent books at Wal-Mart with the top book being a Wal-Mart cover variant for some reason. The Marvel 3-packs are $8 each, which is expensive as hell.
|
Re: DC partners with Walmart
Not only that, those Marvel 3-packs are recent titles too. Comic retailers are losing their minds because of it. Now a potential customer can buy 3 Marvel books at Wal-Mart for $8 instead of picking them up for $20 at one of their stores.
All my local Wal-Marts have the #6s in. All previous issues are gone. |

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Marvel likes to make their first issues (which they have a lot of) to $4.99 nowadays. Then whenever there's an anniversary (Fantastic Four #650, Avengers #700), they pump it more - $7.99 and $5.99. Sometimes, they release a bulky book for no reason and charge upwards of $5.99 for it (some Deadpool books last year).
Most of these books are now in the Wal-Mart packs for $8. Again, retailers are pissed because these are very recent books. |

Re: DC partners with Walmart
If you’re ok with digital collections and can wait a few months, you can own every comic book for about 50 cents each. Can’t imagine buying from a local shop with no or tiny discounts. Go ahead and cling to your precious paper and buy 5 books a month for almost $20. I’ll spend the same amount and have 40 books.

99c I can see, how do you get to 50c (unless you're talking collections or something) |

How recent? Unless they're only a month or so old, I think it can only help them (if someone reads the issue and is actually hooked on the book). The people who pay five bucks or more in store are going to have bought the book at their LCBS already, they're not selling backstock of something like that months later. Now if Marvel consistently did this, and collectors changed buying habits, that'd be one thing, but I'd assume not only is the selection hit and miss (as to what's in it or whether you can even find it), but most collectors will be more anal about condition and I can't see these being in great condition off the racks.
But I can understand the outrage. Just realistically I don't think this is taking away sales. Also holy crap I'm glad I'm off the monthly drip. Uncanny X-Men #1 and Fantastic Four #3 only 2 months old, and Avengers #10 (#700) even newer. The price point of $5 for each pack makes the three comics cheaper then just buying Avengers #10 on its own. THere's a mixture of older books like the lenticular covers that never sold. Plus a couple of First Print books that went into Second Printing (Venom Annual #1, Spider-Geddon #1). For me, I'd prefer to pick these up at the comic store because there's no way these will be in NM condition. Congrats on staying away from the monthly haul. At this point, I don't think I'll ever be able to stay away. |

Correction - I miswrote the price on these books. It's actually 3 new Marvel books for $5. Not $8.
