Re: DC partners with Walmart

FYI - DC released the Crisis Giant today at WalMart. I've been to two stores and each copy was thrashed.

Same here. Crisis was released separately from the other 5 books and every copy on my closest store was ripped in the spine.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

New set of Wal-Mart books are out. Only saw 4 new books including From Beyond the Unknown 1, Aquaman 3, Superman 2 and Titans 1. The store I found them only had 3 copies of each.

Great! It's a pretty cool issue.

The WM near my work put 4 new issues out today: Batman 4, Swamp Thing 4, Wonder Woman 4 and Flash 4. Don't know if there's a fifth issue special like it has happened for the past 4-5 months.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

Had to stop at WM today to restock with some groceries and decided to check the comic book section. Well, I was surprised to see that Marvel has put out a 7 comics for $10 packs. The pack consist of 2 repackaged 3-packs and a loose comic. Only saw 2 versions of it. One with a Spider-Man 1 (Abrams) WM variant and another with the Infinity Wars 2 variant on the front of the stack.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

Of all things, Wal-Mart has received the latest batch of releases this weekend. The 4 books released are Aquaman #4, Superman #3, Titans #2 and Our Fighting Forces #1. This war book has 3 new stories, including one drawn by Jim Lee about Salvatore Giunta, a Medal of Honor winner. The last book hasn't gotten a buzz thanks to Key Collector for no other reason other than no one can get books right now in many areas of the country..

Re: DC partners with Walmart

As someone that regularly goes by the magazine section when I visit Walmart, it's a virtual ghost town. I can't remember the last time I saw someone look to actually buy something from it. They've almost always moved it to the back end of the store near another section also seeing less foot traffic these days - the media section.

Twenty years ago, Walmarts used to have an impressive magazine selection. It's now down to one lone waterfall display with two shelves.

I picked up all 4 issues this weekend. First new comics I've bought in two months!

Re: DC partners with Walmart

New DC books hit WM this past weekend, including Teen Titans Go/Superhero Girls Special #1, Swamp Thing #5, Flash #5 and Batman #5. Wouldn't be surprise if the Batman one catches a little heat on the secondary market because it has a new Joker origin.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

DC has canceled the direct market version of Teen Titans Go/Superhero Girls 1, Swamp Thing 5, Flash 5, Titans 2 and Wonder Woman 84 1. The first 4 were actually released at Wal-Marts during the pandemic, so they may become somewhat of a collectible due to only being available there.

I would bet that Wonder Woman '84 becomes very collectible.

That one still hasn't been released, but it probably will through Walmart either in June or July. I imagine that this was a tie-in to the film that has been delayed due to the pandemic.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

I went to a Walmart for these for the first time in months (I had switched over to the direct market versions of them), and found those last four. Kinda sad if they’re all ending, but it’ll help the wallet and the reading backlog.

That Walmart actually had a pretty big selection of older books, some maybe a year old. So if anyone here has a specific missing issue let me know and I’ll check.

I think they are only cancelling the direct market ones and not the Wal-Mart mass distribution versions. DC has a contract with WM right now that they would be incredibly stupid to abandon.

Well, I mean, it's not out of the question given what's been going on...

Re: DC partners with Walmart

I thought about hitting my local WalMart to see if those 4 books were still on the shelf but decided to pass. Getting them "mid-run" would have driven me crazy that I didn't have the previous issues. And I have no interest in the Titans/SuperHero Girls book.

When (If) the WW84 book comes out, I'll grab it.

The Wal-Mart Giant program is done. They are being replaced with 4-packs of previously released comics for $8.98 each. Apparently, they'll have new variant covers (the way Marvel has been doing their pack releases). The program starts this weekend.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

I was hoping that the Wonder Woman 84 was still getting a WM release. Well, I for one, will miss hunting these 100 page giants at WM. They were fun and really worth the $5. I have them all except that pesky Detective Comics special that was never around any of the stores in NC. If anyone still has a copy they are willing to part with, please let me know.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

Well booger. I loved the format and wished the combination of new content and solid story reprints would create new readers. Heck, even for old collectors they were a good value if even one of the reprint stories was new-to-you. I admit part of it for me was my nostalgic love for the 100 pagers of my youth. I’ll miss these.

I think I have them all outside of this possible WW84, but they’re spread all over the house so I can’t be sure. Should probably gather them all and check that, as a couple of my local WMs still have an assortment of older issues. Try to gather them while I can before ebay prices jump. As always, let me know if any of you need specific issues and I’ll look. Wish I had bought more of that Detective the one time I saw them.

Re: DC partners with Walmart

Part of me wants to get those last 100-Pagers just to own them now but my two closest Wal-Marts stopped carrying the comics. I haven't been able to check the two Wal-Marts on the way to work because I haven't been to the office in 3 months! C'est la vie!

Re: DC partners with Walmart

I rushed to Walmart because I needed the last Superman Giant and this one location had already removed them, replacing the Giants with a single box of the packs shown above. There are five packs in total and each one costs $8.98.

This batch is apparently leftover stock from Diamond. The big lure is that variant covers are selectively included.

I bought a pack as a show of support. The issues in my pack included Batman 89, Wonder Woman 755 (variant cover), Batgirl 45, and Detective 1022.

From the reports, the comics in each pack are the same. This means that if your bought the package with the Batman 89 you will get those same 4 books each time around.
