Re: DC partners with Walmart
New books are in. Saw Superman Giant #1 and Crisis Giant #1. I think I also saw DC Super Hero Girls #2 but my only focus was Crisis.
FYI - They shortened the reprint of Crisis #7 so it begins right as Alex Luthor opens the path to the Anti-matter universe to confront the Anti-Monitor. No origin of the multiverse beforehand. |
Re: DC partners with Walmart
It was announced today that DC is doing an 80th Anniversary Giant Special for Robin next year. Hopefully these ones won't be hard to find like the Detective Comics special was.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
^ This isn't a WalMart release. It's a regular comic store release with multiple covers like Detective and Action 1000. Should be very easy to find.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Collector's have been eating the Crisis book out the shelves as it's selling for $10-$15 online. I stopped by WM closest to my house and there was only 1 copy left of Crisis and was somewhat damaged. Stopped yesterday by the other WM in my town and they had 4 copies in good condition. It seems that they released 5 copies of each December book per store

Re: DC partners with Walmart
So are the Batman, Superman, etc. Giant comics that are being released in comic shops now reprints of the ones that were released in Walmarts last year?
|
Re: DC partners with Walmart
No. The Giants released last year will remain WalMart exclusives. The original stories (Tom King's Superman, Bendis Batman) however were released as individual mini-series throughout the year tho. They're probably collected as TPBs by now.
The current Giants are being released at WalMart (and other stores willing to participate) first with exclusive covers before hitting comic shops a few weeks later. They'll still have up to 32 pages of original content with the rest being reprints of older DC stories. |

Re: DC partners with Walmart
I managed to find one slightly damaged copy of the Crisis book.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Comic Tom and Key Collector managed to fuck everyone including myself into getting this book now after posting about it last night. I heard through the grapevine that several dealers hoarded the little inventory that exists of this book and that they “tipped” Tom and KC on putting it on their yearly top 10

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Glad I grabbed a copy off of Ebay for $22 back in May. Back then, I debated spending that much!
|
Re: DC partners with Walmart
What's weird is I came across one location with something like 20 copies - I had no idea at the time this book would become majorly scarce. Methinks it's time my one copy gets put up for sell.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
McFarlane Toys is releasing a new line of DC action figures (after winning the toy line license away from Mattel) and they're hitting stores now. In conjunction with that, it seems that Target is getting an exclusive Batman comic to go with that launch.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...839a684d3a.jpg Batman: The Caped Crusader #1 is a 100-Page, $9.99 Giant along the lines of Target's last exclusive (Primal Age). However, that exclusive was all new content. This book follows the WalMart model with a couple of new stories and the rest of the book being filled with reprints. Should be in stores now if anyone is interested. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...14d2e9fb2d.jpg |

Spin Masters won the license for the retail side after a fallout between DC and Mattel, while McFarlane toys won the license for the collector's toys. 2- The Spin Master toys look like shit. So far, the first wave for 6" figures is for Batman, Joker, Man-Bat, Nightwing, Harley, another version of Batman and a chase gold figure that seems to come 1 per pack. For the 10" line, the local Target only had Robin and Harley in stock. Both sets of figures look and feel cheap, with pretty bad paint jobs. Don't know where this is going but it certainly reminds me of when Toy Biz got the DC license from Kenner back in the 80's, only to put out a very mediocre line of toys and then lose the license the next year back to Kenner/Mattel. 3- All the Mattel DC Comics toys are on clearance 4- Most stores haven't stock the comic books yet but they are coming. The sad/angry part about this is that the few stores that have stocked them have been raided by scalpers and comic book store owners/dealers. Already, in a Target near where I work, an employee that I know told me that the owner of a LCS came in and bought every single copy of the book and took away the display with it. So we are competing against this types of people like the early days of the WM books. |
Re: DC partners with Walmart
The Spin Master DC line also has a Superman line that includes regular Superman, Return of Superman Superman, Shazam, and Flash

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Target comic is Expensive for a giant. Wal-Mart giants are $4.99.

I never actually came across the previous Primal Age comic at Target.

At one point, I thought Trevor picked up extra copies for anyone who needed them.

Still haven't seen this book yet nor the McFarlane figures. Plenty of Spin Master stuff tho.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
You guys might also want to be on the lookout for this figure. It's a pretty cool 1939 Batman Action figure that was released by Mattel last year and includes a small replica of the Detective Comics 27 (only the Batman story). I found it in the clearance section for $7 along other Mattel figures that are being phased out from stores as the new Spin Masters line has arrived.

Re: DC partners with Walmart
Today's the official release day for the new DC toys so I hit my Target first thing in the morning.
They barely had anything out. 1 McFarlane Superman and a smattering to Spin Master toys. I asked about the comic and the guy said they had a separate end cap that all the new stuff was supposed to be on but they hadn't got to it yet. He went into the back and pulled out the box of comics for me. He said pick what I want and if there was anything left, put it on the shelf for him. So I did. Only grabbed 1 copy. |
Re: DC partners with Walmart
Wasn’t a new batch of Giant Size supposed to hit WM this past weekend?
