Well at least he won't be alive to be ripped off anymore. Poor guy was basically controlled the last few years of his life.

This pretty much sums up my feelings. I grew up reading his comics, especially his Spider-Man and FF. My sense of right and wrong, of family, of community -- apart from anyone besides my parents, those come from Stan's stories more than anyone else.

We all expected it years ago. Like Deftones said, between his wife and being taken advantage of at least he has peace.

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95 (Update: Dead - RIP)

Stan was a major figure in my life. I grew up in the era right after he stopped writing and had become Publisher and Editor in Chief. I loved Stan's Soapbox and went back and bought back issues and reprints of those classic comics he wrote.

I always loved Stan. He was the greatest ambassador comic books could ever have.

He will be missed.

RIP: Stan Lee has passed away

I wasn't sure which forum this would fit in ...

Stan Lee, the legendary comic book creator, writer, and editor, has passed away at the age of 95. A titan in the field of comics, Lee made his name in the early days of Marvel, co-creating characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and more. In recent years, he transformed himself into an omnipresent pop culture icon, a smirking, charming, devil-may-care rogue with a quip for every occasion and a cameo in nearly every Marvel movie.

TMZ reports that Lee passed away this morning after being rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The comic book legend has been ill for several years and had even cancelled all future convention appearances.

If I were Marvel I would have pre-filmed about 20 scenes with him in various random places to be used in all upcoming Marvel movies for years to come..

There's 2 threads already. One in Movie and one in Comic Talk. Both pertinent to his career.

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95 (Update: Dead - RIP)

Why so sad?

Everyone dies, not everyone gets to 95, remaining mostly physically and mentally healthy the whole time, not to mention having an enormous cultural impact. A life to be celebrated, not so much mourned, because that's the ideal of how we all would want to go out.

I interviewed him years ago for the terrible FF movie, but he was great, very engaged and amiable.
I had heard he had filmed 3 cameos for the next 3 movies. One of them may have been the last one out so there may be 2 left unless he's filmed more since then. It would be cool if he filmed a goodby scene that they could place in the very last cameo after he dies.

Obviously no one knew exactly which cameo would be his last but I’m hoping his final cameo is poignant and fitting. Like being saved by Spider-Man and simply waving goodbye as he swings away.

So my excitement about the end of crappy super hero movies was premature?

Re: RIP: Stan Lee has passed away

Sadly with some searching it sounds like we are covered thru the infinity wars part 2 for sure but beyond that is unclear. It looks like the article I read was a year or so old and included older movies that have already seen release. I might have seen something else but the search I did seemed to indicate he had 3 to 4 in the can a year or so back.

RIP. What a legacy and influence. Was able to meet him at the Emerald City Comic Con for a photo opportunity a few years back and he even said "thank you" after the picture was taken. He will be missed.

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95 (Update: Dead - RIP)

This weekend I watched Ant-Man and the Wasp for the first time and played LEGO Avengers and chuckled at each of Stan's cameos (it's kind of an extended appearance in the game) each time. Thanks for everything, Stan.

I'm really glad he got to see what a cultural phenomenon his creations have become on the big screen.

He never would have believed it in 1961...

Oh lord...if they did that and showed it at the end of a Marvel movie, I will sob like a baby.
