Today in Comic Book History

I don't think we have one of these threads, forgive me if we do. But I was just looking at a list of today's birthdays in history and noticed two of my favorite creators.

Seth

(Insert Peanuts collection design here)

Kurt Busiek
(Insert Marvels pic here)
(Insert Astro City pic here)

On cellphone, so searching and image posting are hard.

For a known and successful comic book writer, Kurt has been fairly accessible on other forums in the past. DC should give him a book to do with as he pleases.

Mike Mignola too!

Isn't that what Astro City is?

I was thinking something set in the DC universe proper.

Unless your name is Morrison or Johns, you aren't getting by without major editorial interference in the "real" DC Universe... not to mention his encyclopedic knowledge of comic history and his way of making it all work together would be utterly wasted on the current regime (I feel the same way about Johns, come to think of it).

He's a pretty nice guy. I randomly ran into him at my local used book store a year ago and we chatted about old Canadian cartoonist Doug Wright.

I bet that Elvira issue is a fun comic. I don't think I've ever come across that issue before, I am pretty sure I would recognize it in a bin.

Also, a very happy birthday to the late great E. Nelson Bridwell. Like Will Elder, he also wrote for Mad Magazine, but he is most famous as a writer and editor for DC Comics. He created Secret Six and the Inferior Five, wrote for Superfriends and Superman Family and Creepy and Eerie; edited those awesome DC 100 Pagers; and was DC's first "continuity cop". Pretty much everything comic-related that I love or wish I could do, it was Bridwell.

I enjoy those Super Friends comics. I wish they had reprinted them in color instead of black-and-white print.

Amen to that. I'd prefer the individual issues but they are pretty pricey; I think I only own a few of them.

Layton always had the best grip on Iron Man. I enjoyed his Valiant stuff a great deal.

Pretty good spectrum of talent born today; first let's remember that some good stuff comes from overseas, like great Disney work from Romano Scarpa.
