Re: Storage and the whatnot
45.
But I haven't bought any in nearly a decade. Some of those long boxes are nearly 30years old and are still better than some of the recent Long boxes I've bought. |
Re: Storage and the whatnot
They're for sale if you want to buy them.

Does tinyurl not work in here?
I tried 3 times to link with that but couldn't get it to post. Still doesn't work properly. |
Re: Storage and the whatnot
reading your database... what am I looking at here? Like all your comics? Your log of... all of them? With notes on copies and such? Damn. How long did that take to make?
|
Re: Storage and the whatnot
That's exactly what it is. Took a long time. Months close to a year.
The toughest thing to figure out was all the Marvel renumberings. Back when they started with Number 1s then went back and added them back into the previous numbers. |

Re: Storage and the whatnot
Thanks. I also have about 100 storage bins of action figures but I lost my hand written list before I had a chance to do the same as the comics.
I got the basic idea from somebody here for that database and someone also helped me figure out how to have the totals add up at the bottom of the column for number of copies of each book. I wish I could remember who it was. |
Re: Storage and the whatnot
Now when you say action figures... anything specific?

I not only applaud you for the awesome and enormous collection, but to take the time and effort to organize it (with notes!) brings it to another level.
Kudos. But I have a similar problem. When I collected comics as a kid and teen, I spent more time organizing them, filing them properly, bagging and boarding, making notes, listing every one of them and their value (per Overstreet's new release) every year, etc. etc. I look back and just wish I had read them damn things more often. Hell, I still have current minor issues with books and movie I now buy. I shift them around, make them look good on a shelf but never read or watch the damn things as much as I should. It's a sickness. But there is some enjoyment to be gotten from doing that kind of stuff. It just depends on the person and how they are wired. |

If you have a LOT of comics, Drawer Boxes are the best. If you order directly from the company, they sell them in batches of 5. If you're only buying 5, the price breaks down too pretty much the same as buying them one at a time at your local store (thanks to the added shipping costs). Buying direct only works best when you're buying a ton at once (15 to 20 boxes). Then you'll start seeing an advantage with the shipping.
However if a local store doesn't care them, just know that ordering 5 at a time from them works out to the same so you're not getting screwed. Store Locater Here Be aware that without the BoxLox to keep your top boxes in place, you'll easily pull those boxes down when you open the top drawers. The lower boxes use the weight of the others to stay in place. The top not so much. There are cheaper drawer boxes out there but the originals are still the best (for me). They're sturdy and stack well together. I've seen another company sell only an outer shell that you can slide your existing boxes into (sans lid). I haven't tried those mainly because I'm so happy with the originals. In fact, I just bought another couple boxes last weekend. Damn. Ok. So What do I exactly buy so that I can just do one trip? Boxlox? wha? I have about maybe 2000 comics that I need to take care of along with like probably 3000 I need to get out of the regular comic boxes. |
Re: Storage and the whatnot
I had hoped to check these out in person prior to making the leap, but apparently the only store in the area doesn't carry them anymore. They told me the profit margin was extremely small and it was really expensive to get them in. Add that to the fact that once the people the switched over were done, I guess they really weren't selling. Looks like I'll be going in blind at some point!

I have about maybe 2000 comics that I need to take care of along with like probably 3000 I need to get out of the regular comic boxes. The BoxLox are recommended for the top row of boxes. You interlock your top boxes with these little plastic buttons and they maintain the weight when you open a top box. There are pre-drilled holes on the box shells and you just snap these into place. Each long box holds about 235 comics (in bag and boards) and something like 280 without. Short boxes hold 145 in bag and boards. Generally, I don't cram the boxes just to fill space. I leave a little breather room so I can actually get to the books I'm looking for. I had one friend who crams the shit out of his boxes and you can't even look through them without pulling a comic out one at a time. So your comic total is like 5k? Wow. Not bad, Snake. |

Re: Storage and the whatnot
Meh, no comic book is worth more than 99 cents in my mind.

Re: Storage and the whatnot
I'll buy your best books for $20 then.
