What's the last TPB/Graphic Novel you bought?

Yes, I will eventually get it. I always wait a few weeks after release since DC's quality control is shockingly poor with missing issues and other problems in their trades/hardcovers/omnibuses. I wait to hear if there are any problems with a release from other fans.

Wow the cover is so much better than the cover jacket for once...

The cover looks gorgeous. It's disappointing that WW's appearance in Action Comics #600 wasn't included. Typical DC custom to pinch pennies whenever they can.

That Perez-WW book was too damn sexy so I just bought it. I added the Iron Fist Epic Collection for my IST free shipping (and yes, I notice that there's also an IF-PM collection out now, but I didn't read that series).

I just got it in the mail yesterday. It's beautiful. Nice, thick sturdy pages, that are somewhat matte. The colors do look a bit washed out due to the bright white paper. The line work seems a little broken up (but not too badly), probably due to blowing it up to a larger size. DC's really stepped up their Omnibus game.

I got The Joker: The Clown Prince of Crime trade. This is a mini-series from 1975. I am excited to read it since I've never seen the comics before.

SHIELD, Werewolf by Night and Star Wars vol 3. So now I can't afford to eat.....
Found my Miracleman comics, too, though. Thought they were more lost than they turned out to be..

Received mine yesterday as well. One of my first really poor packaging jobs from Amazon. The hardcover was in a box that could have fit at least 4 similar sized items, but it was alone with one bluray set, and no bubble wrap or paper wrap of any kind to cushion them. They both appear to be fine, but I'm not sure how they survived.

Re: What's the last TPB/Graphic Novel you bought?
I was all set to gorge on IST's clearance sales, but I wasn't tempted by much so I just got some newish releases with the 45% off deal (still advertised on their site)
Lee-Kirby SHIELD collection (clearance)
Graphic Ink: The DC Art of Darwyn Cooke
Catwoman: 75 Years (most of these have gotten bad reviews, but hey, Catwoman)
Legends of the Dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle (I'm not familiar with this era but I've started picking up a number of these volumes)
I really like Lazarus and Saga but was feeling a little burned after they released the nice HCs of the first two TP volumes. So I've read Saga through #4 but Lazarus only through #2.

Made a little trip to a comic store a few hours from where I live and picked up the following.
Batman: Haunted Knight
Daredevil: Yellow
Star Wars: Princess Leia
The Uncanny X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga
Also picked up the first three issues of the IDW Back to the Future comic.

Astro City's Family Album trade paperback. It's possible I already owned it in some form but I couldn't find it.
I am still waiting on an Astro City Omnibus.

Re: What's the last TPB/Graphic Novel you bought?
I actually haven't. It's one of those stories I always meant to read but never got around to yet so I picked up the trade. Not sure if the version I got is the best or not as it sounds like there's one that collects the main storyline which is ten issues and an out of print (I believe) edition that fills in more of the surrounding events.
I'm kind of a novice to X-Men in all honesty. I like the characters and the limited amount I've read but never really know where to start or what is and isn't good. I know the Claremont run is really highly regarded but aside from that I get sort of lost.

The Claremont X-Men run is legendary but it pays to start from its beginning and read it in order. I think Claremont's first X-Men issue is around #94 or #95. The Dark Phoenix Saga is a better read if you know what led up to it. It's the culmination of everything Claremont had set up for the prior three or four years.

Re: What's the last TPB/Graphic Novel you bought?
I was doing some research and it sounds like I should be reading Uncanny X-Men #101-108 to get the first part of The Phoenix Saga and that The Dark Phoenix Saga (the trade I have) is the follow up. Only problem is that it appears that only The Dark Phoenix Saga is collected in trade form and other than an out of print omnibus that goes for quite a bit there doesn't appear to be an easy way to get the earlier issues. I suppose I could probably hunt down individual issues or go the digital route (I'd prefer not to do that) but you'd think Marvel would collect the earlier parts of the story in trade form.

The Uncanny volume 1 omnibus is getting a reprint.
But as a kid, The Dark Phoenix Saga was one of the few collections that were out, and I read it fine without reading the earlier issues.

Re: What's the last TPB/Graphic Novel you bought?
They did reprint the run in the Uncanny X-Men Marvel Masterworks TPB series, but I'm not sure what the print status is of that. There's also the Essentials series if you don't mind black and white.
Because you're fairly new to X-Men, I think it'd be worth it to read the earlier issues, though Dark Phoenix is rewarding on its own. Once you're past that and if you want to read more, it gets pretty messy. I think we have a thread around here for just that. I tried to get into Age of Apocalypse but got lost and gave up.
