Batman Rebirth # 92 where they introduce the new Punchline character. That was the last recent newish comic im caught up on for now

Crossover #1 -Enjoyed it quite a bit and looking forward to where it goes.
Been mostly out of comics for the last 20-30 years. I read a TPB every year or two but that's it. With covid and the problems it brings to retailers I've been trying to support the store across the street from me. In the last two months I've picked up the three issues of Three Jokers (meh story with some highlights/GREAT art), a SheHulk comic someone recommended that I didn't enjoy all that much, Crossover which I plan to pick up monthly, and some $1 What If? and Gi Joe back issues. Are any of the current monthly Batman or Spiderman titles worth a damn? |

I read the two Ultraman mini-series that Marvel put out over the last year or two, Rise of Ultraman and Trails of Ultraman. It’s a modern tale that has plenty of shallow and deep dive references to the various television series. For what it is, I’m not sure we could have expected much better. The art is good but doesn’t wow me, and the stories set things up nicely for hopefully continuing adventures.
I’m perhaps biased as a huge fan of the 1966 show; it, the original Trek, Batman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, my birth. Has there ever been a better year? Just like the show, we have it mostly a story of the human characters, punctuated with occasional three minutes of monster action. I really enjoy the humor in some of the dialog between our conjoined team, and in the extra pages/stories in each issue 1. I’m really looking forward to the next series. |

Legends of the DC Universe: Crisis On Infinite Earths - The Untold Story #1
This was a one-shot written by Marv Wolfman himself in 1999, filling in some of the gaps for Barry Allen's experience during Crisis bridging his time in the 30th Century to his return to our time. Fairly essential reading for big Crisis fans with art which closely mimics George Perez' style. Not majorly consequential in the scheme of things but ties up a few loose ends. A spin-off from the Legends of the DC Universe anthology series of the late 1990s, which ran for a couple years. Someone was selling the first 20 issues of this series as a package and the covers compelled me to purchase them. Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes Tabloid edition. They recently reprinted the rare C-55 treasury edition as a full-size hardcover.

Art by Mike Grell, who by this time had moved on to his Warlord book. It was set between issues #237 and #238 of the regular series. Apparently sales for the book were middling back in the 1970s, which meant 75,000 copies. Today that would be a fairly big number. Fairly readable for Legion fans, though the art is a little inconsistent and the reveal behind all the trickery against the Legion is a little strange. |

So where has Dan Panosian been? I vaguely remember him being sort of a big deal at some point decades ago, right? I don't remember any specifics or if I ever bought his stuff before, but this Alice Ever After is great. And it's got Marginals!

Soul Plumber 1-6 A total blast of ‘comics should be ridiculous’, while also being a surprisingly slightly respectful attack on religion and man’s nature. The art is amazing, and the story kept me engaged and surprised at a couple of the turns. Highly recommended. |

100 Horror Comics in 31 Days - Days 3 and 4 The Conjuring: The Lover 1-5 An odd title that I wouldn’t have expected from DC. It was actually an anthology title, sort of. The five part main story was an average tale of a first love wedged into the Conjuring universe and apparently leading into last year’s film. Each issue also included a backup story called a Tale from the Artifact Room, and these backups were much better stories from a rotating cast of creators, including one deliciously drawn by Kelley Jones. Also included in each issue were a couple pages of fake ads, bringing to mind the ads from the 70s. Oh, and wonderful main covers from Bill Sienkiewicz. Not strongly recommended overall, but I’m not upset that I bought these, as DC horror anthologies were key to me becoming a comic book fan and collector. |

100 Horror Comics in 31 Days - Days 5 thru 7 The Silver Coin 1-10 Wow, wish I hadn’t waited so long to read this one, as I should have been raving about it in the local shop for over a year now. An anthology title done in a way I don’t remember seeing before, Michael Walsh provides the amazing art for every issue, and we have a rotating cast of writers, including some of the top names in the business like Ram V and Jeff Lemire. The ‘mythology’ issues 5 and 10, exploring the origins of the coin, and written by Walsh as well, are the strongest. I hope this title continues for a long time. |
