The Newsstand app for iOS devices is offering the odd-numbered collections of Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files for half off. I have some store credit, so I will indulge in volumes 5 and 7. You might need to download the 2000 AD app to get the deal.

Today Marvel has an Inhumans sale. 56 various issues from their own minis, event books, and their first (?) appearances back in early Fantastic Four issues.

Today starts a three day sale on all the Strangers in Paradise collections. I bought volume 1 and will finally try this much praised series.

Strangers in Paradise is worth owning in full. I got the omnibus a while back. So good.

Oddly, I think the omnibus (SC) is cheaper than buying all the collections on Comixology (which averages about a dollar an issue).

That is the point of an omnibus, no?

Usually even with a decent preorder price an omnibus usually comes out to more than a buck an issue. So the strangers in paradise one must be a great deal...

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

The use of the word depends a lot on the source putting it out, too. Marvel and DC use omnibus lines to present a large run in oversized hardcover format. Dark Horse uses the term to offer a medium size run in an undersized paperback format at a good value(I think the normal is about $24.99 for a dozen or so issues).

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Last year Comixology did a 12 Days of Free Comics special, and they're doing it again this year. Every day a comic gets posted, and you have 24 hours to download it. I believe you have to get it through the website, not the app. But you'll be able to read it in the app.

Anyway, the first day's comic is Batman (2011) #13.

Also, I noticed that Sex Criminals #1 from Image is free. I think that this issue was rejected by Apple, so you can't purchase it through the app, you have to do the website thing, then it will show up in your purchases on the app.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Not meaning to sound contrary Joe, but the 12 Days thing has started on the app, just got my Batman 13.

And Sex Criminals was available and free on the app a couple weeks ago. I see it's not in the store anymore, but it's still in my books.

I was probably just misremembering how it worked last year, then.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Today starts a three day sale from Oni Press on six of their graphic novels; $3.99 or mostly $4.99 for Capote in Kansas, Ivy, Local, Lost At Sea, One Soul, and The Coldest City.

Today's DC 12 Days of Christmas is pending.....

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

How did I miss Sex Criminals and Lazarus when they were free before? I bought my wife the first trade for Christmas (which I plan to read too, of course).

I hope Velvet ends up being one of the free books.

I've been reading Batman '66 occasionally. I noticed this week's new issue is $1.99, weren't they .99¢?

Cool, I've been curious to check out the Gail Simone series, but not "spend money" curious.

Should this have been in the relics thread?

But how gimmick covers are handled for digital could be an interesting topic.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Just got an email with a deal, today only, for Marvel Unlimited subs:
http://marvel.com/comics/unlimited

Use coupon code 18for12 to get 18 months for the price of 12. I might bite. $69 bucks for a regular sub, but I might go for the $99 sub... stupid collector's mentality.

edited to add: nevermind, it doesn't work on the $99 one anyway. Went for the $69 bucks for 18 months, even with the gaps, I'm hoping the improved tablet support will allow me to use it more than the last time I subscribed. Like I needed another action figure anyway...

Twice tonight, I've almost taken advantage of this offer since you posted it, but I'm still going to hold off. It is a good deal, but I'm going to save my money for physical goods until I make more use of digital comics.

I'm tempted and conflicted as well. As much as I enjoy comics on my tablets, I'm a collector at heart and crave the 'physical' aspects of collecting (hoarding). Yet more and more I'm realizing that I own much more than I'll fully appreciate in my lifetime, so perhaps it's time to make the change.
