NYC Comic Con 2011: Oct 13-16th

I'm going. Went there today (Friday) and got a zombie sketch by Tony Moore that was signed too and then went and got it signed by Robert Kirkman.
While getting that signed by Kirkman, they were giving away free copies of the Walking Dead companion book. So got that signed by him and went back over to Moore and had him sign it too. |

I was there yesterday and I'll be there today. What pleased me is that, from my perspective, the focus of the con seemed to be back on comics, something I hadn't noticed in many years. There's a huge publishing presence in the dealers' room. And I actually bought books there!
Most of the panels I went to/will be going to are comic book-oriented, rather than film, TV, anime or J-pop. That's a change for me. I saw the talk with Joe Simon yesterday. The co-creator (with Jack Kirby) of Captain America turned 98 on Tuesday! At the same time he was talking, they were showing a documentary on the history of comics in another room, one that features interviews with Simon. I wanted to see both. Why schedule them at the same time? Bad planning on the part of the organizers. So I opted to see Simon in the flesh. How often will I get that opportunity? |

Would've loved to go if I had know it was this weekend. Too many scheduling conflicts.
I knew something was up when I started seeing costumed people on the subway. |
