Amazing Fantasy #15 sets silverage sales record

Amazing Fantahttp://blog.newsarama.com/2011/03/09/breaking-amazing-fantasy-15-sells-for-1-1-million/sy #15 sets a silverage sales record.

A 9.6 graded copy sells for $1.1 million. This makes it the second highest selling comic ever and the highest silver age comic ever.

1st time a SA book past the mil. mark. I would have expected another GA book but not an SA book; at least not for a long, long time.

Would have expected it to be Batman or Superman #1. There's a huge 24 year time difference between Action Comics #1 and Amazing Fantasy #15. Golden age comics are much rarer; but this copy did grade a 9.6, where the golden age issues were about a 9.2.

This makes the first app of Spider-man more valuable then Batman's first appearence which doesnt seem right.

The first appearance of the Wolverine in Hulk 181 has now sold for $150,000 making it a record for a 1970's comic. It graded a 9.9. It seem s investing in comics in this economy is better than the stock market or real estate.

There are so few of these that come on the market that it's really a function of the grade of the few that come up. I don't doubt that if an equivalent grade Detective #27 comes on the market, it will sell for more. But like you said, there hasn't been a 9.6 Batman first appearance on the market recently, so ...
