All these comic cons pale compared to the San Diego Comic Con.

Re: Comic Conventions
Yeah I could give a shit about SDCC. G4 has live coverage and thats good enough for me. Heroes is in state, I can go to any panel I like, and most of the creators favor it anyway.

While I am going to Comic-Con next week, took a bunch of photos at Heroes Con 2 weeks ago:

Re: Comic Conventions
I'm kinda of disappointed in the guest list for Wizard World Chicago this year. The past couple of cons had some cool old school guests - I got autographs from Adam West, Richard Roundtree, and Pam Grier - but this year it's mostly just Trek/Buffy guys. Although James Hong is cool.

Can we all agree that SDCC should be renamed? I mean its hardly about comics anymore primarily.

Re: Comic Conventions
So no big news came out from Marvel and DC at this year's SDCC. I wonder why Marvel didn't just announce Marvel NOW at SDCC instead of releasing the news to Entertainment Weekly just 1 week earlier? They would probably have had more media exposure.

Re: Comic Conventions
Well, I survived my 4th Comic-Con (2 in the 1990s, and 2 in the 2010s). I'm pretty worthless today at work, though.

Hollywood has co-opted the entire event for it to primarily be a showcase for upcoming movies and television shows. Can you literally buy an actual comic book on the show floor?

Re: Comic Conventions
I ended up picking up the entire run of Justice League International along with a few trades. I've only been twice, but it seemed like there were quite a few more comic dealers there this year than when I went a couple years ago.

Re: Comic Conventions
So, I got an email about Stan Lee's Comikaze this weekend (Sep 15-16) at the L.A. Convention Center. Kinda snuck up on me, so I don't have any plans on going. Curious if anyone else is going.

Re: Comic Conventions
I know ill be going to SDCC next year. since I went this year, I was able to get my tickets early.

Re: Comic Conventions
My friend who invited me to C2E2 this year has already extended the same offer to me for next year. Basically, since he's going whether I go or not, he's not expecting me to chip in on gas or lodging and in exchange, I help circulate his sketchbook to ensure he gets the pieces he wants from the various artists on his To Get list. In short, a no-brainer for me! Next year, I hope to do a better job getting to panels and if I can find an artist doing free or really cheap sketches, I'd like another Batgirl to go with the one I got from Marc Silvestri free this year. Ideally, I'd also love to snag another press pass writing for Flickchart, too, and I hope to find some subject material particularly interesting.
And, of course, if I could actually catch up with any of y'all, that'd rock! |
Re: Comic Conventions
Anyone go to NYComiCon this year? I had a great time. Got some great autographs and a ton of free books, most signed by their authors. Also picked up a star wars print by dave dorman that has been on my want list for years.
My favorite get was we met Rob Paulsen walking around the show floor. He was nice enough to pose for a picture and sign an autograph. Everyone always spells my name wrong, especially celebrities, so we asked him if he could sign it "to Bryan, with a "y", narf! and not only did he sign it that way but he said it, too, in the Pinky voice. Great moment. |
Re: Comic Conventions
Rob Paulsen is a super great guy. I performed at the Riot LA festival last month and he was part of a live podcast for "The Legends of Voice Over Acting" which was really great. He stuck around for my show after and came up to me and had really nice things to say about my set, totally great guy.

Re: Comic Conventions
Wow, been a few years since this thread was updated!
Kinda short notice, but the CalComicCon in Yorba Linda, CA is tomorrow (Sunday, 25JAN15). I'm going again since it's still a nice, small place to see actual comic books (shocking for a comic convention to do that!). Here's a link to their site for anyone interested: http://www.calcomiccon.com/ |
Re: Comic Conventions
I've been going to Emerald City Comicon the last few years. I like it but too crowded and, except on Friday when it's a bit less hectic, if you want to go to any of the celebrity guests, you pretty much have to park in there all day. The comics stuff is better, you can usually get in no problem. I usually go all three days, but I got really sick of the crowds last year, so I'm going to try just going on Friday this year.

Re: Comic Conventions
I'm really looking forward to this one:
http://www.greatlakescomiccon.org I met Ron Marz a couple years ago- he was a great guy to chat with. I was wearing a Dave Alvin t-shirt so we landed up talking music for probably a good 30-45 minutes. |

I've been routinely missing it since. I assumed it's a bit like Frank & Sons in Rowland Heights. |
