Yeah, it used to be that $20 was the going rate for just about any celebrity and sometimes only $10 if you brought your own item as opposed to having a picture from their table signed. Most comic book creators were free or charged $2-$5 at most. Now, not even a very minor actor (like a random zombie actor that appeared in one scene in a single episode) is $20. Most comic book creators are a minimum of $10 now as well. CGC and Ebay caused the prices to spike for autograph collection.

Going to Comic Con LA tomorrow. I purchased a photo op and autograph with William Shatner. Pretty expensive, but I sucked it up for this time.

I know this thread doesn't get read much, but I'm debating on what should I have him sign:

1) Star Trek 6 movie 4K box set from this year

2) TJ Hooker complete series box set

3) Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan cast photo with me photo shopped into it from Star Trek the experience in Las Vegas back in 2004. I paid $25 for the photo back then. Here is the photo:

I don't really want a generic 8X10 that they have available. I'm leaning more to #3.

If it's for your personal collection and you never intend on selling it, I'd go with number three. If you know someone that's decent with photoshop, maybe they could fix the damage on the photo and you could print out a nice crisp copy of it to get signed.

I got a very similar photograph from the Star Trek Experience in Vegas the same year you got yours. I think mine was from Star Trek VI, and then I had one where they morphed me into a Borg. Both of my pictures came in a clear hard acrylic frame. I can't remember if I paid extra for that now or not though.

Shatner's photo op will have a clear acrylic divider between you and Shatner which kind sucks. But, I've seen some come up with poses in clever ways to incorporate the divider into the picture like it is a prop.

Re: Comic Conventions

Yes, it's for my own collection and I plan to have him personalize it to me. It's not like I can sell a Star Trek II photo non-personalized with me in it

I'm okay with the slight photo damage. The photo is 18 years old.

Yeah I fully expect to have some kind of border with Shatner. He is 91 after all.

Re: Comic Conventions

If they would let you recreate this scene using the divider then the whole pandemic has been worth it.

Shatner is going to do (and has done) so many of these shots, I'm sure he is getting sick of them. But he's raking in the cash hand over fist.

Alright an update from Sunday

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...aa5abdc00a.jpg

Yes there was a plexiglass divider. Shatner was pleasant.

Re: Comic Conventions

Did you get the picture signed? If so, did Shatner have any comment on it?

DJariya 12-06-22 11:50 AM

Re: Comic Conventions

Yes I got it signed. He didn’t personalize it. There was a lot of people waiting. But he signed it in black, which kind of sucks. I forgot to request a gold sharpie. Oh well.

And no he didn’t comment on the picture. He quickly signed his image and handed it back and I said thank you and he said thanks for coming. He was pleasant.

Also met Karen Fukuhara from The Boys. She was really awesome and down to earth. We chatted about the show and cities we like to hang out in Orange County.

Yes there is a plexiglass divider between us. She requested it. And she wore a mask when at her autograph table.

Re: Comic Conventions

I very rarely do autographs, and have never done pictures, at the cons I've attended. The plexiglass kind of sucks, but if it helps the actors and others keep coming out for years to come, it's not the worst. The interaction is still there, such as it was anyway.

Bought a ticket a week or so ago to WonderCon 2023. It's the same group that puts on San Diego Comic Con, but it's held in Anaheim. Ticket costed me $50 plus a surcharge. Going on Saturday March 25th.

Not sure I have the budget for more celebrity pictures, but if I see anything interesting, I'll try to post a few pictures here. I last went in 2018, but 3 of the last 4 years I couldn't go because of work and then of course 2020 was cancelled because of COVID.

Planet Comic Con in Kansas City just announced Richard Dreyfus as a guest. I don't recall seeing him at many cons before.

I'm going to head down for that, but so far none of the celebrities are ones I feel the need to meet. But there are plenty of comic creators I'm hoping to get signatures/sketches from.

The crowd was big and got bigger because some didn't get an autograph on Saturday so they were added to the FastPass line on Sunday. He was about to take his lunch break and wasn't quite ready when the helper took the photo

Rachel Leigh Cook was all about being friendly and huggy. She was a complete doll.

Henry Thomas was also very nice

Nice that's awesome.

Sucked the Dreyfuss photo turned out awkward looking. They didn't let you do a 2nd take?

The guy actually took like 4 shots. I think the con guy helping out was just happy to get photos. He mentioned to us that sometimes Richard is forgetful. Sure enough he had forgot to include my name on the personalization. While it was a little odd, it was still great meeting an actor who starred in three of my all-time favorite movies.

My meeting of Rachel Leigh Cook was so great. When I told her my name for the autograph, she said "Cool, my dad's name is Tom." When she came around to take the photo, I was holding my jacket and backpack in one hand. She said "Let me put those on the table to make it easier." She made you feel comfortable like you're friends.

I'm glad to hear that Rachael Leigh Cook was great. She still looks amazing.

Re: Comic Conventions

I’m going to a convention/event in July and will be meeting Ian McDiarmid. Already purchased my autograph ticket and probably will do a photo opp too (I can have up to four people in it so it’ll probably be my fiancée and I).

There are going to be other Star Wars guests there too like Anthony Daniels, Katee Sackhoff, and Dee Bradley Baker. I’ll probably also get an autograph from Dee Bradley Baker as I’m a big fan of The Clone Wars.

I don't think I would have recognized Henry Thomas in that picture. He looks like he aged a lot in the past few years.

That's exactly how I pictured Dreyfus would look at a con
