Please help me "whittle down" my pull list... Suggestions? ;)
 

Looking for a bit of help - I'm a bit too greedy, and just getting back into comics, as of about a month ago. So I'm looking for any suggestions on which of the titles below are either crap, rumored to be crap, turning into crap, etc. Without further ado, here's my list that I need to reduce by at least 10 titles:

I'd gut all the Spider-Man titles and all the X-Men titles. Then gut anything with "Dark" in the title.

Besides Batman and Robin, Batman and Detective, I'd take a hard look at gutting all the other Batman-related titles. But that's just me.

There are 98 books on that list. If he's ordering through DCBS, or someplace like them, it would come to probably something like $175. If he's just showing up on Wednesday with no discount, it's probably north of $300.

To the OP - what's your status on the Vertigo titles - have you been reading Fables and Scalped and everything for the last few years? What are your feelings on TPBs? You really need to read books like Scalped and Fables from the beginning, so that's 9 books you shouldn't buy right there. I read the first two issues of Streets of Gotham and Gotham City Sirens, and neither of those is worth reading, so that's 11 books total.

Damn, you get almost as many books as me.

Your list is easy to weed out.

First, drop the mini-series, is there really even a point anymore to picking up mini-series when the trades come out so quickly & they are cheaper. Do you really need to get books like Starslayer, Psylocke, or Image United (a book that will likely see 2 issues & then disappear before it ever finishes).

Of the monthlies these are no-brainers to cut . . .

New Mutants (I mean really, that shit is dreadful & will be cancelled soon)
Wolverine Origins (Wolverine Weapon X is the only Wolvie book worth it)
Chew (unless u really like it, it's so overrated IMO, all hype, art is annoying)
Mighty Avengers
Deathlok
Doom Patrol (why waste many when DP always gets cancelled)
Grimm Fairy Tales
Lone Ranger
Justice League (has been dreadful for ages, no direction at all)
Outsiders

I can't help you on which books are worth reading on a monthly basis. But I just got back into comics about 2 years ago I went straight with the trades. Unless you have friends that are collecting and you want to keep up to date with them and be able to talk about it, it's almost not worth the cost to collect that many books. Maybe get it down to 10 or less and then collect titles you hear good reviews in trade format. Plus with sales 35%-50% off you can get a lot of books to try out.

Also if your library carries trades check some out and get an idea of what you like. (Wish mine did)

You know, I'm stuck on Justice League because each time I'm ready to drop it, a new creative team comes on and I think it'll turn around (and I order months in advance). Argh.

I can tell you Gotham City Sirens is weak. If you don't already have it, I'd recommend the Harley Quinn series, the first 20 or so issues.
