How to pronounce "Shonen Jump"
I understand this might be a strange question, but level with me.
I have an interview tomorrow with a guy who helped bring Shonen Jump stateside. That's all well and cool, but I don't want to make a fool of myself by completely mispronouncing the title. I took German, so I see Shonen, and I'm automatically pronouncing it Schoernen with a thick German tongue. I know that can't be right, but have no idea what it could be... Shin-in is all I can think of |
I've always assumed it was Show-nen
|
Yep, Show-nen.
|
It's pronounced "throatwarbler mangrove".
Yeah, I know it's an old joke, but it's still funny, dammit :p |
I don't see what "Shonen Jump" has do to with German? Can somebody please fill me in?
Dirk |
Shonen (with an umlaut over the o) is a german word for beautiful (I think when calling a superior or group beautiful)
So the only time I've ever seen Shonen is in my German classes, and as a result, every time I see Shonen Jump, I pronounce it in my head as Shoenen |
It's pronounced just like the band Shonen Knife.
|
Show-nen is the only way I would think to pronounce it.

Forgot I was in the Comic Book forum. I feel like I have been time traveling.
