Yep, I was in the same boat, a regular buyer for perhaps 25 years.

When I first "quit" (I still buy bunches of graphic novels occasionally), it took quite awhile to stick. I'd go a few months, and then find a comic shop and start up on monthlies again, I'd last a few months and quit again.

It has been 3 or more years since I've last been a monthly subscriber, so i think I'm out of that forever.

I'll continue to buy trades of writers or characters I enjoy, hopefully forever.

There's only about 12 days left in the month and I still haven't placed my DCBS order, typically it's done the day the new stuff is put up. I have a pile about 6 weeks old of unread monthlies. I've tried new titles, I've dropped others. Nothing brings the thrill like it used to. I see long box after long box filling up what space I have left in my house and I see prices going up---when you add that into the boredom with the stories, there just doesn't seem to be any point in spending the cash on them.

your growing as a person, it`s like me a few years back I reread the two classics Watchmen and Dark Knight. they were ok, not the great stories of my youth. your probally tired of superheroes. maybe try something else.if super heroes really is your thing then try the animated Batman or Superman DVDS by Timm and Dini much better than anything done in comics with the 2 icons. also I highly recomend Walking Dead if you need a jolt to keep your love for comics alive.

wow.....that sucks cause there are so many great books out right now.

I've been reading that since the beginning. While it's picked up in the last several issues, it's really like everything else right now: I'm just not going to miss it when I stop reading it.

I did just time this "getting out" right (and unexpectedly): my last order included the final Y: Last Man. I don't think I would've been very happy not to see how that turned out!

First, I failed to justify my weekly (later monthly) trek to the distant "local comic shop". Then, I tired of mail ordering comics (long delays). Finally, I lost my last bit of nostalgia when DC embarked on crossover madness and the various characters that I had been following for twenty years became unrecognizable or dreary and dark.

Honestly though, I'd be back in a casual way if I could buy comics online from a legal, secure store ala iTunes or Amazon.

I still don't know if I outgrew comics (seems unlikely since my habit lasted nearly to 30) or if the quality just fell too far.

That is a pretty good description of how ceasing to read comics felt to me. First, it was almost stressful, then it felt pretty good.

My wife seems to feel the same way about soap operas - you reach a point where the writers constantly beating up the characters you care about start making you angry with them (the writers) rather then eager to tune back in for the next update/twise.
