I'd reckon it went out of print because they sold out of them.
I sort of remember reading somewhere (Gaiman's blog, maybe?) that DC was going to be keeping the Absolute Sandman volumes in print. If this is the case, then I'd expect volume two get reprinted eventually. Absolute Watchmen went out of print for a while, and DC issued a second print a few months later. Not sure what criteria DC uses for which volumes get reprints, and which don't. Watchmen obviously gets to stay in print, but some Wildstorm stuff like Authority and LOEG doesn't. "@ICregular it should be back in print in March. It's already been reprinted but is on a slow boat from China." So we should be seeing it in about a month. Back to normal prices. |
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
Take a look at the DCU collected editions for fall 2010:
The following DC Universe titles are scheduled to arrive in stores in October: ABSOLUTE ALL-STAR SUPERMAN HC Writer: Grant Morrison Artist: Frank Quitely Collects: ALL-STAR SUPERMAN #1-12 $99.99 US, 320 pg |
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
DCBS will surely have it for at least half off.
|
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
I'll take it. Thought Morrison and Quitely were supposed to do some stand alone issues someday. Oh well maybe if it happens DC will be kind enough to sell us a $75 Absolute of the collected issues. ;)
|
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
There was talk Morrison might do some more issues, but with other artists, not Quitely.

Yeah, I also think that they're supposed to be drawn by other artists -- it's a fucking miracle that they managed to get twelve consecutive comics drawn by Quitely in the first place. |

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
Got the two Planetary Absolutes last week. They're nice and all, but I'm still bummed that they didn't include Batman/Planetary book, which is also by Warren/Cassaday - makes no sense to not include.

Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
Just got the Absolute All-Star Superman book - it's every bit as awesome as you might think it is. Probably the best Absolute book yet - the perfect story/art for this format.

The Absolute releases have really slowed down. Any rumors of the next ones? |
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
Does that mean they're not selling? I haven't picked one up since New Frontier, which looks awesome but I still haven't read all the way through.
|
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
They are kinda over-priced - I mean $100 retail for a 12-issue collection? Regardless of quality, that's pretty steep, especially in this economy.
|
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
I heave heard that there's going to be an Absolute We3 coming out. Considering it's a three-issue limited series, I don't know how they're going to swing that. Surely they're not going to price it at $100 for a 96-page story?
Agreed about the books being overpriced. The first few Absolute books (Absolute Authority and Absolute Planetary) were priced at $50 for 12 issues, and DC kept bumping the price up until they settled at $99. Though a few still slip through at $75 like the recent reprint of Planetary vol 1 and Absolute Planetary vol 2. |

Before the $25 hardcover was announced, I read some rumors about a an Absolute We3. Either the deluxe hardcover was the plan all the time, or they decided against the Absolute Edition. ETA: Did a quick google search and the information about an Absolute We3 came from Morrison himself at a convention last summer. |
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
I love Identity Crisis, but a list price near $100 is insane. That is absolute extortion for 288 pages of content.
|
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
No kidding, the Absolutes are nice, and probably cost a little more to print than Marvel's Omnibuses, but they typical $100 Omni has about 2-3 times the amount of content than they typical Absolute.
|
Re: Any DC Absolutes in the pipeline?
I would think the Absolutes cost a lot more to print/produce. But yeah, I thought the Absolute Death volume was skimpy (and it did have a lot of filler).
