Mike Wieringo, RIP

Ringo, the artist with the great cartoony style whose work graced The Flash, Fantastic Four, Spiderman and others, has apparently died of a massive heart attack at 44.

A real tragedy. He was a favorite of mine and 44 is much too young.\\details: http://www.newsarama.com/

Wow, that's terrible news. I really enjoyed his artwork.

Chew 08-13-07 09:52 AM

Wow, only 44? That's really sad news. :(

Patman 08-13-07 09:59 AM

OMG! I am shocked! I just saw him at Heroes Con just a couple of months ago. This is just unbelievable. I'm very sad by this news. My condolences to his family and friends. Wow.

stingermck 08-13-07 10:16 AM

Damn. He signed my 1st appearance of Impulse, many moons ago at Heroes Con.

ytrez 08-13-07 10:31 AM

Way too young. Like Mike Parobeck who was around 31 and Gene Day who around 32.

Superboy 08-13-07 10:58 AM

Holy Shit. :(

Fielding Mellish 08-13-07 11:15 AM

I am absolutely stunned by this.

reverie 08-13-07 12:51 PM

Wow. I wasn't a huge fan of his art, but it conveyed a lot of fun. You just never know.. Sad news indeed.

JasonF 08-13-07 02:11 PM

I didn't care for Mark Waid's work on FF or Peter David's work on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but each time I would see an issue, I would think to myself "Man, I really dig 'Ringo's art. I hope the next book he winds up on is a book I enjoy." Sadly, I guess now it is never to be.

My condolences ot his friends and family.

lukewarmwater 08-13-07 03:11 PM

Yeah, this is really shocking. I would check out his blog all the time. He post a few sketches a week and always share a few stories in them.

He would always be really personal on his blog too, so this feels like a bigger loss then if it was just another artist.

lukewarmwater 08-13-07 03:13 PM

I know he worked with at least one good writer, if not more.

Yeah, I saw this on CBR and was shocked as well - I really dug his art style and Tellos was just amazing...

:rip: Ringo

True_Story1011 08-13-07 05:36 PM

may GOD usher him forward into heaven - RIP

Rogue588 08-14-07 01:10 AM

Man, that sucks. He was a favorite of mine. :rip:

boredsilly 08-14-07 05:48 AM

He was a favorite of mine as well. Comic fans can be so bitchy about artists being late and unreliable, but here was a guy who was about as rock solid as you could get.

His run on FF was a favorite of mine and I was going to try to get him to sign the first HC for me at Baltimore Comicon.

It's a shame he passed at such a young age.

exactly the thought i had.

his art had "youthfullness" to it.
i always thought a much younger prson was benind the pencil.

he was great.

madcougar 08-14-07 02:05 PM

I am a huge fan of his artwork. I litterally bought a sketch he did at a recent convetion on eBay a few weeks ago. Everyday when I've gone into my toy room, I've gotten a smile from looking at it. I had hoped to one day make it to a convention to commission a piece myself.

fujishig 08-14-07 02:23 PM

I'm a huge fan too, from his original Flash run and on. Just finished reading his "Modern Masters" volume a month or so ago, and was hoping for some other Tellos stuff. Wow.

Somehow, this particular page seems appropriate...
