Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Don't mean to come off as threadcrapping, but I recently got my first omnibus: ASM vol 1, and I was somewhat disappointed. Although the idea of the omnibus sounds great, I think that it is just too large and cumbersome a format. Its a chore to read, and I believe its girth lead to it getting damaged during shipping.
All that being said, I probably would pony up for ASM vol 2. I'd just pay a little more at the LCS rather than Amazon. |

With Amazon, I hardly ever order any graphic novels from them, it depends on which warehouse they ship from. I've had some come in great but then had one that was put in a huge box with 2 of those air pillows, like that would help. http://www.dcbservice.com/ is where I preorder my omnibuses, usually 50% off and shipping is about $6. I've gotten 3 from them only had one minor problem with one but I think it was more in the manufacturing. |

I understand the books are huge, Spider-Man and Secret Wars 2 I think are the two biggest. I read them at a desk, the only easy way to read them. If you're wanting smaller easier to read versions you can go with the Marvel Masterworks, they cost about $50 each and an omnibus collects about 3 of those so you save some $ by going with the Omnibuses.

I have some Masterworks volumes that I got cheap, but you're right in that the HC's are not really economically feasible. Although given the new TPB format, I might go the Masterworks route with the FF. I do love the oversize pages and the inclusion of the letter columns in the omnibus though. |

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Saw the new Brubaker Daredevil Omni at the LBC the other day. It's cover price was $75, which is kinda steep considering it was a much skinnier than the normal $75 Omnibus - I think under 20 issues or so. It's not available at amazon yet either.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
It's especially frustrating since the remainder of his run isn't going to be long enough for a good size second omnibus.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
I want a third Fantastic Four Omnibus, hopefully finishing off Kirby's run.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Actually, the Bru-Devil Omni collects 23 issues. The reason it seems so skinny is that Marvel is now using much thinner paper in their Omnibuses. Compare an older one to a newer one and you'll immediately notice the difference.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Just placed and my order at DCBS. Noticed there is a Brubaker Criminal Omnibus that I missed in the solicits. Never read it. Any good? Wonder if it will look like the normal Marvel line.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Criminal is awesome. The Icon line that Criminal is a part of doesn't share any design qualities with Marvel books, so my guess is the Omnibus won't either.
|
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
The CRIMINAL omnibus hasn't been solicited yet. It'll be in this month's solicitations. Brubaker confirmed this on BleedingCool.com. I figure this'll cover #1-10, 1-7, which seems sparse for an omnibus. Shame we probably won't get any of the backmatter, but I understand the initiative to get people to pick up the singles.

I wonder why the mutant massacre HC isn't being called an Omnibus, it collects all of the titles that were crossed over i think. maybe it isnt big enough? http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/X-Men-Mu...re-HC___348076 |
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
I don't think INFERNO and MUTANT MASSACRE are technically Omnibus; neither were solicited that way. Inferno is the size of one of the smaller omnibus, Daredevil, Iron Fist, etc. Mutant Massacre, however, is only as big as one of the oversized hardcovers they've been releasing for certain series: New Avengers, Punisher MAX, Annihilation, etc.

But it sucked five times as much as Secret Wars 1. That is a lot of pages, though, did they include all of the tie ins? Because I thought the miniseries was shorter than the first Secret Wars.

I'll add to that complaint and say it was also dumb to release it after Brubaker's DD Omni, since this 2nd volume of Bendis' DD takes place just before Bru's run. Not to mention, getting all these Daredevils and Bendis' 2nd run, and still no sign of Uncanny volume 2.

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
It's expensive too..... 24 issues for $100

Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Tales of Wonder is having a $50 Omnibus sale but I believe it is only good for another couple of days. You get free shipping on orders over $99.
http://talesofwonder.com/category-ex.../cn/Marvel+HCs Sorry I'm late but I just thought about posting it. I picked up Spider-man, Wolverine, and the Secret Wars sets. I have all of FF, Hulk, Iron Man, and X-men stuff on Gitcorp's dvd-rom releases but couldn't help myself and caved for the Spider-man set. Seems to be pretty good prices even though it appears Secret Wars' MSRP is way overpriced from what I have read. |
Re: Marvel Omnibuses you'd like to see
Read and enjoyed Bendis and Brubaker's first DD omnis. First time I've ever read the material at all.
Also been going through the Captain Britain one. I actually have both of the previous tpbs (the one from the 80s and the more recent one), and in all honesty, the early, serialized issues that weren't collected anywhere else weren't all that great. Moore even admits in his intro (which was written like 7 years ago) that he hadn't revisited this stuff at all since he wrote it. Still, I love Alan Davis, and I really hope that we get an Excalibur collection to go along with this one someday. |
