what comics do you subscribe too?
what comics do you have a monthly subsciption with?
|
Last comic that I subscribed to (from the publisher) was Micronauts.
Last titles from a LCBS were Flaming Carrot and Swamp Thing last year. |

i saw you can get subscriptions from Marvel. Is there a downside to that or something? I don't have a comic shop within 50 miles of where I live -- so I can't just go walk in to a comic store whenever I want. What is a "pull" list? I know I sound like a d*ck...I am just very new to this stuff.

I hate to see this, but if you don't have a store anywhere near you, it seems that there is an on-line site, I don't know the name but this site alone keeps them in business ;), & they offer a 40% discount. Much better than ordering through the company, which can often have huge delays as well as shipping damaged comics. |

I still pay patronage to my LCS, but they do things that irk me too much to support them with my weekly purchases. |
No subscriptions, but I do have a pull list at my comic shop:
WALKING DEAD DAREDEVIL PUNISHER ASTONISHING X-MEN CAPTAIN AMERICA INCREDIBLE HULK |
I'm having a hard time believing subscription copies from Marvel show up in pristine condition after going through the postal gauntel with just plastic and thin backing board as protection.

None. But I regularly pick up the newest Y: The Last Man trade.
|
I have a subscription to Batman and detective comics from DC direct. (it was a present) every issue I have gotten in the mail has some damage to it. most with banged up corners and fold lines through the middle. They usually arrive in 2-3 and a half weeks. Im still waiting for my issue of Batman #663 which came out Feb 16. if you need to order your comics through the mail do not go through the publisher. order from a company that ships out in a box.

i just started up 4 subscriptions with Marvel. It is a must for me because the nearest comic shop is 60 miles away from me :(. What i wouldn't give to have a local comic shop.
Anyway I subscribed to the following: Amazing Spider-man Daredevil The Incredible Hulk The Mighty Avengers i might add another subscription, but I haven't decided yet. Comics are like crack unfortunately. wlj |

maybe i am misunderstanding the site, but isn't it like $5 shipping fee? i would hate to order a comic and it cost me 5 dollars to ship it. That would be an 8 dollar comic. I have heard people talk about this site alot, maybe i am just not looking at it right. wlj |

wlj However, if you order more than that, then their 40% or so discount will more than offset the shipping charge. |

Just start with DCBS now and don't quit your local store for a couple months. Or, some online places have great prices on back issues, or issues that are "current". Some online places send you the big Previews for free, or for a buck, and you place your orders in advance using that as your guide. Or they have their own catalog, or you just use their website to view everything available. It might sound totally foreign to you if you have spent your whole life only buying comics in person. But once you start doing it, and enjoying the 40-50% discount, you'll get used to it quick. The only negative is that if you want to quit a title, you've already ordered a couple months in advance. but that negative is totally offset by the huge discount. It helps if you pay careful attention to the catalogs/previews, so you know in advance when you want to quit a title, and so that you don't miss new stuff to try. Sorry for the rambling post, but it seemed like you are new to the advance ordering concept. I'm sure other, more active collectors, can give you better tips. |
thanks for the info Trevor -- probably, at least at this point, I don't order enough comics to use a service like DCBS. Maybe in the future if i start buying tons each month. thanks for you help.
