Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

What's maddening about the Ollie's sale is that I've only seen incomplete runs for many titles. The black-and-white Showcase volumes show up in no rhyme or reason. Lots of good ones for $2.99, but you'll end up with stuff like Wonder Woman Vol. 2 and no other Wonder Woman volumes.

Get those World's Finest volumes with Huntress & Power Girl if you can. I've only seen volumes 4 & 5 in the sale, but they are decent reads. These are versions of the characters from a parallel Earth that end up on our Earth.

Scalpers have picked clean most of the more expensive hardcovers - you can see them listed on eBay if you look. If you miss a book at your local Ollie's and want it, you could probably pick up a pretty cheap copy on eBay right now with all the competition.

The cheaper paperback trades are hanging around longer. I'm not sure how Ollie's is going to move some of the less interesting $2.99 trades. Is there a big market for Stormwatch trades in 2018?

Depends. The Warren Ellis run that led into his Authority is generally considered to be a modern classic.

Any other Stormwatch stories are forgettable, though.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I hope someone here snags this deal. An eBay seller I've used before and can fully recommend is selling a brand-new "52" Omnibus for $45 shipped. They pack very well.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-52-OMNI...cAAOSwezVWuDRc

This deal is bananas - the book is over 1300 pages and it retailed for $150.

This is the year-long DC crossover that happened about ten years ago. Don't hesitate - this is one of the best omnibus deals I've seen of decent material.

A new copy of the Absolute Death edition by Neil Gaiman is being sold for $44 shipped. This is an excellent price way below market value.

Down to one copy after my order just now. I’ve yet to read an Absolute, looking forward to this, thanks PS.

I was tempted to get one but I'm not that big of a Death fan.

It was one of the more ridiculously priced Absolutes too, IIRC, for the content. Still a killer deal, though.

Thanks so much for giving us the heads up, I was able to snag one. I only have the contents in TPBs so this will be a great upgrade!

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Ollie's now has a Marvel dump.

My location had about 20-30 titles.
Like the DC offering earlier, it's a mix of HC and TPBs. The hardcovers ran from $7.99-$19.99 for the XvA Companion Omnibus.

Will try to make a note of the titles when I go back tomorrow.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

During the Oliie's DC dump (which I never made my way to look at), can anyone say if the Norm Breyfogle's Dark Knight Volume 1 was a part of it? I just discovered that this book exists a week or so ago and they were selling for as low as 15 to 20 bucks but now are running around $75 and up if you can find one.

What the heck happened?

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I don't recall seeing that one, but I think selection varied a little bit by location.
I know that there were things supposedly available that I never found at mine and vice versa.

Two more copies of the Absolute Death are available. The seller also has a good deal on a DC One Million Omnibus for $44.88 shipped.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

The good news is I checked a local Ollie's and they had the Marvel dump. The bad news is, it looked like this (I couldn't get the image to embed for some reason)
https://imgur.com/a/EgPXOAS

Meaning it was a big pain to look through everything. I was mostly looking for hardcovers, of which I saw a crapload of The Twelve OHCs, some Star Wars 1 OHCs and MiracleMan book 3 OHCs, and just a couple Axis and Secret Wars OHCs.
For TPBs, what I remember seeing was saw some Star Wars 1 and Spider-Man/Deadpool 0.
They also had a handful of those novels that adapt comic stories.

Oh boy, now Marvel is dumping excess inventory at Ollie's. This could be expensive for me.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

Anybody have opinions on the AvX Companion omni or Secret Wars.

I'll probably pick up Secret Wars if for nothing else than the Ribic art. I know the AvX event was generally panned, but at least one review on Amazon claimed the companion stories made for a much better read.

I want to try to cool it on expenses for the next couple months, but I'm leaning towards picking these up in addition to the two Ms Marvel (K Khan) volumes that seem to have nothing but praise.

I came across a fairly similar batch at the one location I visited.

Speaking frankly, I didn't find this sale nearly the same bonanza as the earlier DC sale. Ollie's learned their lesson from the DC sale. They've priced the hardcovers higher this time, ranging from $9.99 to $14.99. It also pales in comparison to the initial DC selection and volume.

I came across hardcovers for Matt Fraction's Hawkeye, Thanos: The Infinity Relativity, Avengers: Rage of Ultron, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. There were actually more hardcovers than regular trades. Trades included the Age of Ultron and Original Sin.

I did see some Star Wars graphic novels.

If I hadn't had a 15% off coupon they sent me last week, I probably would have skipped buying much of anything.

Dcbs here as well. Most of the DC and Marvel trades are 50% off, almost everything is at least 35% off. Packing is great. Customer service fantastic though rarely needed. Shipping is $7.50 a month, but I usually earn more than that monthly in Comixology credits.

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I just sorted the Prime Day upcoming deals by books, and there are a number of comics there: Batman Year One, Saga, Walking Dead Compendium, etc. Usually they ignore books in their big events.

I’m trying the Prime code above on a Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge 2-pack that’s $31 and not having any luck.

I was wondering about that.

Not sure whether to use it myself. I know I want a $15 book.
