Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

I had the Hellboy library edition volume 1 in my cart yesterday, it was a lightning deal for about half price. Had the $5 coupon applied and somehow decided not to hit “buy”. Hellboy is one of my favorite series of all time, and I wish I had waited for these beautiful library editions, but I just can’t bring myself to quadruple dip.

Searching for something new to me that I don’t already own but want to own in physical format, and struggling to find anything.

Those library editions for Hellboy are great.

I ended up using the coupon on a Pogo volume.

Check out HomeGoods' stores if you have an interest in framed DC cover art. I've seen several different locations get in various classic DC covers this past week, including the classic Silver Age Superman/Flash race.

Stopped in Ollie's tonight for the hell of it, to see what if anything they had left from the Marvel dump a couple months back.

All the titles I was remotely interested in were gone (and TBH, I can't remember what they all were so it's probably just as well I didn't get 'em to begin with).

They had a lot of DC trades left, but no showcases oddly.

Wasn't a total loss as I found a copy of Graphic Ink- Frank Quietly , still in the shrinkwrap for $10. Hadn't seen it before there so- SCORE!

If you have a 2nd & Charles near you, they are having their awesome graphic novel sale that they do (usually once a month) right now thru 9-29-18 which is Buy 2 get 20% off, Buy 3 get 30% off, Buy 4 or more get 50% off.

This is a great way to score some big book for really cheap like Omnibuses. It says in their ad pre-owned but it seems they include any and all graphic novels, shrinkwrapped, new, whatever. You can buy several cheapies and then get an Omnibus in there for half price off their already low prices or whatever combo you want to do.

Yesterday I got:

Punisher: Back To The War Omnibus (shrinkwrapped with remainder dot)
Star Trek: The City On The Edge Of Forever (used but hardcover with minor corner wear)
Star Wars: The Marvel UK Collection Omnibus (shrinkwrapped with remainder dot)
Just Imagine Stan Lee Omnibus (shrinkwrapped)

for a total of $66.23 before tax. And I had $52.20 in store credit of stuff I traded in! So $20 total out the door after tax for all that!

I will have to find my receipt for the batch I got from there last month. It was an even better deal.

Found my receipt for the prior batch from last month:

Star Wars: Droids & Ewoks Omnibus (Marvel - shrinkwrapped w/ remainder dot)
Legends Of The Dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle Vol. 1 (Used but like new and out of print)
Big Damn Sin City (used - outside a little beat up but out of print and pricey and large!)
Treasury Edition Stan Lee Omnibus (shrinkwrapped New and freaking HUGE!)

for a total of $108.97 before tax! Then I had $77.20 in store credit and got it for $41.58 total out the door after tax!!!

Sorry. Just had to share. It was exciting. :D

Re: Comic Book Bargains & Hot Deals

^ I'd thought about picking up the Star Wars UK Marvel Omni. IST had(has?) it for $40 new, but I decided I was good with the handful of stories reprinted in the first couple of Epics.

Speaking of IST, they are currently pricing all their their *damaged* titles at 70% off. That may only last till Tuesday 3pm EST, when the new titles for the week go up.

I haven't ordered damaged books from them (on purpose at least) before. But my last few orders have contained at least one book that needed to be returned for damage/mis printing, so I'm not sure what to expect.

$22 for a $75 oversized HC should be enough to help me chill on my OCD, I hope.

I've occasionally ordered the discounted damaged trades over at Instocktrades. Most of them have arrived with very minor flaws, at worst. I have a real hunch that much of their "damaged" inventory are distributor returns from bookstores like Barnes & Noble. Barnes' DC inventory matches up quite well with the "damaged" items found on IST.

Ollie's got in a sprinkling of new DC books last week, including that Frank Quitely book. For whatever reason, Ollie's prices their DC stock far better than their Marvel books.

A new batch of Marvel trades has shown up at Ollie's. Titles include a couple of vintage Avengers trades and more recent Marvel fare, including Wolverine, X-Men and Deadpool.

Of course I just placed an order a few days ago that I had been thinking about for a couple weeks.
And I checked and the 2% rolling order discount does not combine with this 3% code, the 3% just overrides it.

That Chris Claremont omnibus has been on massive discount for a while from IST. Marvel must have printed too many copies. The price is tempting but it's mostly a collection of his non X-Men work.

Ollie's Bargain Outlets received more DC and Marvel trades. Some New 52 trades that haven't been seen before like Green Arrow and Earth 2, a Mr. Freeze trade, Batman/Judge Dredd trade, Wonder Woman hardcover. Also a trade collecting all the Dark Horse/DC crossovers.

The most notable Marvel stuff were an Iron Fist trade collecting stuff from the 1990s, and the companion trade to Marvels.

Saw that yesterday plus Marvel and DC 10 packs for $4.99 for the Marvel and $5.99 for DC. The Marvel ones seems to be mostly second printings and random issues of Civil War II and Secret Empire. The DC packs were actually much better and included a mix of New 52 stuff, including some nice variants and early issues of Rebirth.

Barnes & Noble is having B2G1 on Marvel, DC and Image books, and they have 20% off $40 or more with code BLKFRIDAY through Sunday. It looks like the regular price for everything that's not a preorder is 10% off, so that works out to 52% off cover price if you can find 3 books of the same price and get it over $40. Not the greatest deal but might especially be worth it if you have gift cards to use.

For the OCD out there (of which I am one), this may not end up being all that amazing.
If you can live with a few bumps and scratches though, there was a deal at Target today that is in it's final hours and it is/was pretty damn good.

First off, there is an automatic $5 off of any $20 or more book purchase.
After that there is a blanket 15% discount for any online orders placed today.
On top of that, for Red Card holders, there is the customary 5% discount.

All added up, this can easily yield discounts greater than 50% off publishers that aren't just Marvel or DC or Image.

For anyone who buys the annual Spectrum books, I just ordered the newest one in HC for $20 shipped- inc tax.
The Colossal King Conan, which is due soon, rang up at $50.
