What Comic Books Will You Be Reading in September?
I have my sights on Strange #1 ...From what I hear this series is going to be very exciting. Plus having JMS writting it you know it will entertain you.
Other Marvel line comics will be UF4, Ultimate Nightmare, USM, Ultimate Electra, and Astonishing XMen!! If you haven't started reading Amazing Spider-Man you need to! This current arc is AWEsome! Sins Past is great! Cant wait to see what happens next The Superman run I think is awesome. Yes, it's lacking action. But the story telling is great. Superman is on the ledge with who he protects, is he a God, by taking one side is it right? It's pretty interesting see the conflict within the Man of Steel. Batman Fans need to pick up War Games! It gets a big  from me! Act 1 was great and now ACT 2 is starting! Really looking out to see how it turns out and who is pulling all the strings. So what are you guys reading? |
The Strange miniseries that was supposed to come out 2 years ago? yeah, can't wait. Anyway, everything that JMS touches definitely does NOT turn to gold in my book. He's great conceptually but he can't write worth beans. His dialogue is really starchy and forced. His Amazing run is also massively overrated. The latest storyline is boring as usual and overwritten as usual and mysterious as usual but still leaves so many things hanging.
Superman pretty and confusing at best. What the hell is this Vanishing you speak of? when did GL get into this strange conundrum that was in issue #1? and why is Lois "gone" when she's in the other 2 Superman books? confusing. Okay, the books aren't linked and the storylines could wrap around each other. But the other 2 Superman books reflect current ongoings in the DCU....ugh...bad continuity... The Ultimate titles are going downhill...USM is incredibly boring and nothing is happening. Yay, Spoiler:

I'm still picking up JSA & Fantastic Four on a monthly basis. LOVE these two titles to death.
I'm currently picking up all the Avengers Disassembled titles for the next couple of months. Lot of hit and misses amoung the crossover (Thor REALLY stands out as "most improved title" while Spectacular Spider-Man blows big time). I'm curious to see where they're taking the Avengers afterwards. We3 - Grant Morrison - Nuff said. Any mini-series or comic story arcs (like the current Amazing Spider-Man storyline or the last issues of Green Lantern) I wait for the trade paperbacks. Saves space (and sometimes money). I pretty much avoid all the Ultimate titles. Spider-Man has gone downhill fast (maybe Bendis is stretching himself too far by writing EVERY Marvel title) and Ultimate Nightmare looked interesting but not enough for me to pick up as a monthly. Again, I'll probably wait for the trade. The Titans/Legion crossover looks good (that comes out this month, right?). Does anyone know when Devil's Due Aftermath titles start? Andrew |
Fantastic Four is a great book, and it's so great that it makes you wonder why they even need an Ultimate and Marvel Knights title.
JSA is consistently the best comic to come out on a monthly basis. |

Really looking out to see how it turns out and who is pulling all the strings. The only thing that kinda bugged me about it was when Mr. Freeze just kinda showed up out of nowhere. You've got the gang's all running wild and that's been pretty much the story so far, and then it's like "Hey where did all these frozen people come from?" "Oh, I forgot to tell you, it's Mr. Freeze's turn to escape from Arkham today." "Doh!" :o |
freeze was hired to take out some of the thugs from a rival gang of his employer. He fits in well
War games has been great. Though Batman 12 cents gave away the whole spoiler shock from act 1 and was very predictable. Act two is going well with tim back. Identity Crisis will be great. though you can see who's going to get it next Spoiler:
Superman is boring as all fuck even with Jim Lee doing pencils. Perhaps its just cause it's moving so slow. who knows. AXM is pretty good with Joss at the helm |
Jack, I'm shocked you don't like the story. I think it's been great thus far...not saying that it's been slow, but it's good story telling. It's interesting seeing how Superman is like a God, but isn't and what makes something right or wrong...which side do you take?
|
Not much in September. Still hoping that Sheba vol 3 Tpb arrives soon.
|
The superman story is just going to slow for my taste. And the last one made no sense in the ending. Not to mention that Aquaman is the joke of the dc universe.
I like war games because since it's covering multiple books the story could be told so quickly with atleast one comic a week. I just wish something would happen. The whole Vanishing story arc doesn't seem to be progressing much. And considering that the next book is all that will make up the first TPB of this story arc it really leaves me not all that excited about it. A lot of ground needs to be covered. |
Thor is red hot right now.
|
Looking forward to Green Lantern #181 in Sept. and Rebirth #1 in Oct.
I haven't really been following comics for a long time, but the return of Hal Jordan has really caught my interest. I recently picked up issues 176-180 and can't wait to see what happens to Kyle. |

ok these are graphic novels but meh:
Just finished: The Amazing Spider-Man Vol 7: The Book of Ezekiel About to start: Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 3: Here there be Monsters :) yay after that a WHOLE load of Angel graph novs *w00t* |
I haven't really posted in these threads lately because I've had nothing new to say. (There's no point in me posting the same thing every month..."JSA" is the best team book on the stands now. Hell, it's one of the best books period...."The Flash" is still great, but I miss Kollins, hate Porter's interior art, and despise Turner and his covers...."Human Target" is one of the best new books in quite a while...etc., etc., etc.)
But since I had a big haul this week, I'll chime in. Strange #1 - I hope it's worth the wait. I've never been a big Dr. Strange fan, but I do really like JMS (his comic and television work). Ultimate Nightmare #2 - Warren Ellis is a very gifted writer. So why have most of his books been so mediocre lately? Human Target #14 - Have I mentioned that this is the best new title in quite a while? Still, it'll be hard to top last issue. (Am I the only one already missing Milligan's "X-Statix"????) Identity Crisis #4 - Still on the fence about this book. I guess that I'm enjoying it, but it definitely doesn't live up to all the hype. (I have to admit though....That fight against Deathstroke last issue? One of the best fight scenes I've ever read in a comic!) JSA: Strange Adventures #2 - Because you can never have too much JSA! Bad Signal: Volume 1 - A collection of Warren Ellis' internet columns. Rising Stars: Visitations - Too pricey at $9.00, but easier than trying to track down the zero and 1/2 issues. My shop also had a bunch of trades at half off, and I couldn't resist. I picked up: Spider-Man's Tangled Web: Volumes 2-4 - It's a great concept. A different creative team each month. No real ties to the current titles. Stories that takes place in the Spider-Man universe, but in which Spider-Man often plays a very small role. Of course, any series with a rotating creative team is bound to be inconsistent. From the issues that I read, there seemed to be quite a few stinker, but the series did also bring us some of the most memorable Spidey stories in years, including Peter Milligan's "Flowers For Rhino", Greg Rucka's "Severence Package" and Ted McKeever's "Alphabet City" (And speaking of McKeever, what ever happened to his new Metropol project??? And am I the only one who cares whether or not we ever see it????) Thor (Marvel Visionaries) - Walter Simonson: Volume 3 - Was never really a Thor fan until I read Simonson's work on the book. A good find for half off! Thor (Marvel Visionaries) - Mike Deodato, Jr. - I probably wouldn't have bought it at full price, but I'll chance it when it's on sale. The Complete Frank Miller Spider-Man - I don't know much about this one. Not many people talk about Miller's Spider-Man work. But I just couldn't resist a $15 hardcover. I also recently read: Tomb Of Dracula: Volumes 1 and 2 - Can't get enough Colan! Bring on Volume 3! Empire - Who knew that Mark Waid could write something so dark? I didn't think he had it in him. I'm glad that I took a chance on this trade. It's some of Waid's best work. Arrowsmith: So Smart In Their Fine Uniforms - Now the story is good, but the art's incredible. I can't think of a reason why Carlos Pacheco shouldn't be one of the biggest artists in the business. |
Perhaps it's the comic nerd in me, but MAN did I geek out for Identity Crisis this week. Why the hell couldn't this be a weekly series...
Also digging the War Games storyline. And to think, I yelled at Bob Greenberger for making the story run through all the Bat titles essentially forcing us to buy titles we don't normally buy. And, well, i'm a professed X-Geek [check the screenname], but I also enjoyed this week's X-Men. Perhaps those who bitched about Juggernaut joining the team will shut up. However, knowing Austen, i'm sure it's a herring. Still got a bunch more from this week.. |
Not too much happened in ID Crisis this week, but I did love that opening scene. Go Atom!

Bone One Volume finally shipped from Amazon.
|
Re: Bone TPB: I received mine from DCBS last Friday.
|
Just read the new AXM. Another good issue.
|
Anyone reading The End: Book One: X-men: Dreamers and Demons?
I have no clue as to what is happening in the first 2 issues. Too bad I'm stuck with 2 more on pre-order. Ultimate nightmare was ok, well see what happens |

When does Invincible Vol 3 come out?
|
I finally finished up Runaways, a solid series by Brian K. Vaughn and Alphona. I only wished he'd go easy on the left-leaning pap that creeps into his books. Can't wait for the next installment of Runaways in 2005.
