Comics & Manga poll

To those who read comics, graphic novels, manga, etc., which type and brand do you prefer?

I lean more towards manga, although I have been getting quite a few US graphic novels lately from the library (Batman, Superman, JLA, JSA, Spiderman, X-Men, Bone, Castle Waiting, Concrete, Groo, CrossGen stuff, etc., etc., etc.)

Which publishers do you like? What genres? Sorry if the poll doesn't show your publisher, I can't recall many of them off of the top of my head.

On the manga side, I have many more Tokyopop titles than any other (about 60) while Dark Horse has 13 or so (mostly the Star Wars mangas) and Viz has about 9 (not counting Shonen Jump magazines.)

I lean towards whatever has good creators on it. I don't care what the publisher is, as long as the material is good.

I've always been a huge Dark Horse fan, they may be my favorite publisher, but right now I'm diggin' D.C. a lot as well. Marvel was my favorite as a kid, but over the years they've actually become my least favorite publisher, even though most of my favorite characters are Marvel characters.

The only thing I do lean away from, & I'm sorry, is Manga. I know I'm in the minoirty but I just can't stand the stuff & hate the current trend (especially by Marvel) of putting Manga creators on their comics or making there comics have more of a Manga feel.

I really don't have a favorite publisher. My tastes in comics vary. I enjoy Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse comics, as well as New England Comics because they have The Tick :D

Manga is okay, but not something I care for personally.

Most of the titles I read are independent small press with a couple Vertigo titles thrown in. Some of my current faves are Cerebus, Bone, Thieves and Kings, Finder, Fables, Lucifer, Blue Monday, Castle Waiting (hopefully the rumor I heard was true and it is coming back.), and Little White Mouse.

Not overly fond of manga but I enjoy a few titles: Crying Freeman, Akira, Ring adapatation, and looking forward to checking out the Battle Royale books in the future.

I've always been a DC fan - starting in the 80's. Thanks to their Vertigo line, they've kept up my interest as I've aged.

Collect a few Indies - usually in TP.

I prefer mostly hardcore horror books and I guess you would call them adult comics. No I don't mean porn comics. I mean stuff from Northstar, Rebel Studios, Avatar Press, and Broken Halos stuff like that. I'm a huge fan on Tim Vigil of Faust fame/infamy. Tim's brother Joe also did the classic Gunfighters In Hell. Their current series Broken Halos is just amazing. If you like guality adult comics checkout. Broken Halos
For lots of cool comics and artwork from the brothers Vigil.

Usually, I follow creators more than characters, however I definitely prefer DC's iconic characters over Marvel's. I'd still take the Vertigo line over anything else in comics.

I grew up a Marvel kid, but lately, I've been checking out a lot of DC stuff (thanks to John's run on the Flash, which I got hooked on back in the 180s)...like Batman, Outsiders, Teen Titans, Superman/Batman, Superman: Birthright, etc. That's not to say I don't read my fair share of Marvel. Despite all that, I voted for Independents, because most of my favorite work lately has been in that category - Queen & Country, Love Fights, One Plus One, Skinwalker, & Three Strikes (amongst others).

Lately it's been DC or independant labels with me. DC has hooked me with the rebirth of the Catwoman series which is just incredible. As for the indies I stick with Hellboy and anything by Jim Mahfood. I absolutely adored Grrl Scouts.

I still buy Marvel based on my love of the characters, but the better writing takes place over at DC. I enjoy Dark Horse stuff, but I prefer continuing storylines, not mini-series.

Ironically, about two weeks ago the guy at the comic book store kinda chuckled when he saw my stack as he rang me up. I asked him what was funny and he said I was their only customer who picked up a little of everything.

According to him everyone else has their "thing." I don't know if he was making fun of me or not. So I put some sugar in his gas tank later that day.
