Frank Miller also wrote an Elektra 8 issue limited series for Marvel's then "adult" imprint Empire Comics. I don't know if it's a trade paperback or not. Daredevil doesn't appear in it but Matt Murdock does appear briefly. The series was more adult in nature. It was a good read if you can find it definitly pick it up.

That's either Elektra Lives Again, or Elektra: Assassin you're talking about. They were both 8 issue minis on the Epic imprint. I got hardcovers of them both like ten years ago, and I haven't seen any since. I think Lives Again was eventually TPB'd under the Marvel's Finest lable, though. They're both great stories, and worth tracking down. Miller's the only writer who was ever able to make Elektra interesting, as far as I'm concerned.

I finally went out and bought the TPB of Kevin Smith's run on Daredevil this weekend. I've been wanting to read it for a long time because of all the praise it recieved.

I thought it sucked. HORRIBLE! I was really expecting something ground breaking and emotionally moving but those issues were very very average super-hero stuff.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for comic books.

I didn't like Smith's run either. I can't stand any of his writing. Every single one of his characters speaks with the exact same voice. His Daredevil run, especially early on, was just so damn smarmy and obnoxious, I couldn't stand it. He's got to be the most over-rated writer ever.

But, hey, be glad you weren't trying to read that crap when it was originally coming out. It took up to 8 months for each issue to come out, at one point. Terrible.

Smith's comics have been really bad. He does sell well though. When he was on Green Arrow, it was the only non-Marvel comic in the top 10.

If you think you're too old for comic books, read Daredevil: Wake Up. It has amazing art by David Mack and is written by the current Daredevil writer who is one of the best writers in comics. I need to reread Born Again, but Wake Up is my favorite Daredevil story even though Daredevil's barely in it.

I hate you guys. You made me spend $65 at Amazon buying those Daredevil TPBs. I looked on Ebay and they were actually going for higher then I got through Amazon. (I got all 4 Visionaries... yes even the Kevin Smith as well as as Wake Up).

I totally agree that Bendis's run DD is awesome, but I think that David Mack's run on 'Ol Horn Head, in Parts of a Hole, was just as amazing and is unfortunetly underappreciated compared to Bendis.

Just finished reading Kevin Smith's Visionary TPB and it was pretty good. I started reading this series with the actual comics and this just gave me some closure to the story line that I had started so many years ago.

I followed this up by reading Born Again, and that was AMAZING. Beautiful writing and intriguing art work. Next up... Frank Miller's Visionaries Volumes 1, 2, and 3! :D

Pick up the Daredevil/Elektra Love and War HC from Marvel. It has the Daredevil: Love & War graphic novel and the Elektra: Assassin mini done by Miller and Sienkovich(I know I mangled his name).

Daredevil, which comic/graphic novel is most like the movie?
 

I am new to the comic and really enjoyed the movie, and would like both a reletivly in expensive version of the origin and the book that inspired the movie.

I would recommend:

Man Without Fear - Origin

Frank Miller: Visionaries Vol 2 - basis for much of the storyline

Daredevil: Visionaries Vol 1 (Kevin Smith) - inspired several of the visual shots in the film

Also, Daredevil: Yellow is a great retelling of his origin too. If you can only get two books, I'd get Yellow and FM: Visionaries V2.

The Man Without Fear is great in my opinion. I do not even want to see the Daredevil movie, as I know it cannot be as good as MWF. It's not even a superhero story, but a hero story, which is why it is so good. I don't know if the 5 comics are cheaper than the TPB, but it is worth reading.

The movie was pretty much based on Frank Miller's first run on Daredevil, which is collected into three graphic novels -- Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller vols. 1-3. These books tend to be a bit pricey, around $18-$25 each. Also, be a bit careful about what you're getting if you order them online, as the titles Marvel uses can be somewhat confusing, escpecially when looking on Amazon.

Also of interest would be Born Again and Man Without Fear, also by Frank Miller.

And maybe Elektra Lives Again, again by Miller. I thought it had some decent artwork, but the story was a bit pedestrian. Miller had begun to slip into his Sin City-tough guy mode by that time.

(I have a dirty little secret here -- my all-time favorite Daredevil run was actually the one written by Ann Nocenti. The one with Typhoid Mary, Inferno, the Inhumans, and Mephisto.)

Frank Miller Visionairies 2 is most like the movie, in fact, some scenes were translated directly from it. I'd reccomend that and Born Again.

Would I be able to get the graphic novels at a regular book store, or would I have to go online. There is a comic shop near by but the prices might be a little high.

I would imagine Barnes and Nobles carries them, but that would be regular price. Why not get them through an online retailer, like Amazon, so you get 30% off?

Isn't this the arc thats being released in late summer? It sounds like what I preordered from Amazon... :)

I might go to the mall or best buy soon to get Visionaries vol 2 and man without fear. I might also get Batman, The Dark Knight Returns, which is consitered the best comic of all time.

You might also want to check out Batman: Year One. That, Dark Knight Returns, and Watchmen are usually the top three comic TPBs.

Where does the comic start? When the two of them meet, in college? (thats what the director said in the commentary.)

It flashes back to college, it opens with Daredevil stopping some thugs in an alley, smelling Elektra, getting blindsided and her saving him.

I have to VERY HIGHLY recommend the Born Again trade paperback.
