Twisted Comics?
I am a fan of sick and twisted art. I am just getting into this with comics and have found a few. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions of some twisted comics or places where I can find them online. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Oh, and the more twisted and offensive they are, the better.

Check out Preacher by Garth Ennis. I believe that it ran for 67 issues and all of them are out in 8 or 9 trade paperbacks (available at a lot of book stores and definitely at any comic book shop). You do NOT get more twisted and gory and psycho than Garth Ennis, trust me.
Here is one example: Mature stuff below . . . . . . . . . . . . A guy is told to "go f*** yourself". Later in the issue you find out that he sliced off his own penis and tried to have sex with himself. You'll understand why he HAD to obey once you read the books. -Spooon69 ----------------------------------------------- Forgot to mention, Preacher isn't pornographic or NC-17. It has some slight nudity (maybe a boob here and there), but that is uncommon I would say. It has a lot of violence and adult situations and is put out by the mature division of DC Comics (called Vertigo). It is an AMAZING series and Ennis is a wonderful writer. -Spooon69 |
See, I am looking for even more twisted than that. I am looking for art which will give you nightmares for years and a story which makes you question the sanity of the writer.

My favorite comic of the year so far:
My Monkey's Name is Jennifer :) Sample pages: http://www.slavelabor.com/Jennifer%2.../jennifer.html |
You know, I just sent in an order to Slave Labor a couple hours ago too. Well, I might have to pick that up in a few weeks when I get some more cash. Right now, I am trying to find new stuff that fits into the genre I am looking for. If you are not sure whether the comic you are thinking of fits, check out this little quote...
This is my cousin Jake. He looks weird. That is why he's dead. I'm glad I wasn't sleeping with him. |
I think I got the perfect comic for you :
http://www.metabarons.com/comics/ima..._1_cover_G.jpg If you are a true fan of things sick & twisted then you must be familiar with the name Alexandro Jodorowsky who has made some of, if not THE most insane & twisted movies ever put to film, like El Topo. The Metaborons is a European comic & perhaps his most succesful work. The books is simply bizarre & grusome Spoiler:
Honestly, if this is not twisted enough for you then you may have problems |
Alan Moore's From Hell is pretty twisted as well, the mini-series on which the movie was based upon. It is very well done and is definitely not like the movie so it would be a "new" read if you've already seen the movie. For example, in the movie you find out who Jack the Ripper is at the end, but in the book you see how his mind works and find out who he is pretty much in the beginning. The endings are different too.
The book sends shivers down my spine when I read it, actually, anything written by Alan Moore sends shivers down my spine. -Spooon69 |
Metabarons looks interesting, definitely going to check that out. From Hell is not something I would normally be interested in, but I will take a look. If any of you have read some of the stuff from Jhonen Vasquez (of Invader Zim fame), that is more in the line of what I am looking for. I just ordered some of his stuff from amazon and from the clips I have read, it is great stuff. Keep the suggestions coming, I appreciate everyone.

You might want to check out "Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron" by Dan Clowes. Imagine a graphic novel that's a cross between David Lynch and David Cronenberg -- quite surreal and nightmarish.
http://www.fantagraphics.com/artist/clowes/clowes.html "Black Hole" and "Skin Deep" by Charles Burns. http://www.fantagraphics.com/artist/burns/burns.html (I've provided links to the publisher's page for the above two, so you can read the descriptions and see the covers so you can tell if it's what you're looking for.) Also, "From Inside" by John Bergin. I think it's out of print at the moment, though. Might not be what you're looking for. More dark and disturbing than twisted. |
Check out anything by S.Clay Wilson.
He was an underground artist a la R Crumb. And, Faust, by Tim Vigil is pretty damn graphic and sick. Of course EO, another comic that Vigil drew(and I have only seen two issues released) is probably even MORE graphic and sick that Faust. Sessa17 - thanks for the heads up on Metabarons. Think I'll check that out myself. |
Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron - from the little I saw of it, the story seemed to be pushed on the reader, rather than draw the reader in. The art was nothing special.
Black Hole and Skin Deep - This just isn't the type of artwork I am looking for. SmokeDragon - this too is just the wrong type of art work. I do have Metabarons on my next Amazon order with Michel Gagne's Insanely Twisted Rabbits. Check out his work, and let me know if you know of anyother artist that draw stuff like this for comics. I do appreciate everyones help and I do look at every suggestion. Please, keep the suggestions coming. |
The Crusades from Vertigo has some bloody, twisted art, but the story isn't that good.
I recommend Lucifer, also from Vertigo, which has some very twisted art and an amazing storyline. It's up to about issue 25 or so, but there's a trade paperback out that collects the first arc. -Brian |

Well, my comics from SLG arrived today...
Filler Bunny #1 by Jhonen Vasquez - a great 15 page mini-comic. Definitely what I was looking for. The art is typical Jhonen style which is cartoonish. The humor was great though. I mean, how can you not fall in love with a character called "Monkey Who Gets Shot in Face"? Skelebunnies #1 by Tommy Kovac - This comic was advertised on the SLG website as sick humor, but not really to the extent you would think. Most of the lewd comments are inferred instead of said. The art is pretty good but the stories just didn't do it for me. I have some more stuff which should show up tomorrow or monday. And ofcourse, I picked up Milk and Cheese #3 (I can't believe it took me this long to remember this comic, 6 years). Next order will definitely be another M&C, Filler Bunny #2, and My Monkey's Name is Jennifer. |

Most of his stuff is kinda silly, but it's definitely twisted. Most stuff is just too "in your face" to actually be creepy. It's too bad Stephen Gammell (below) never illustrated a comic - there's some art to give one the creeps. (censored for our more sensitive readers  ) http://misterbeefhead.hypermart.net/pictures/scary.jpg |
Joshd, are you from the Chicago area?
I thought that maybe I had read a post that said you were. |
Mister Beefhead - Actually, I think I have found what I am looking for. I won't know until I get it (it should show up Monday, but the USPS is so unpredictable) but if it is what I think it is, I will post a review here for everyone to read. It was a huge ordeal to get them (had to have a random guy in another forum pick them up for me at Wonder Con) but I think it will be worth it. Edward Gorey isn't what I am looking for, but Stephen Gammell may. The picture didn't show, could you link to a gallery of his or something? And no, I'm not from the Chicago Area.

Really? I can't understand why the picture isn't showing - I can see it on this side. I tinkered with it, maybe that'll do it.
The picture above isn't especially scary, just kind of a joke. It makes sense if you had the "scary stories to tell in the dark" books as a kid; there was stuff in there that gives me the creeps to this day. The reason I asked if you were from around Chicago is that there is a fantastic bookstore in Wicker Park called Quimby's that has all sorts of odd books - truly, something to disturb anyone. Her is another of Stephen Gammell's pics - this one gives me the creeping horrors to this day: http://misterbeefhead.hypermart.net/gammell/ss1a.jpg I threw some more up on this site. |
For some reason, I can't get onto that site. Might be the firewall I'm behind, who knows? Anyway, I received my books from Alex Pardee and they are simply the most disturbing comics I have ever seen; and I love it! This is some of the craziest images and text I have ever seen. If you are a fan of the sick and twisted, like me, go check him out.
Eye Suck Ink This made my day... and probably ruined my night. :D |
Well, all that stuff should work now. Turns out my name servers had not yet propagated globally or some crap. Sorry.
|
I actually had that book, or borrowed it or something. That is some cool looking stuff. I totally forgot about that book. Thanx for the pics.
