Free/Bargain Audiobook deals

Figured this might be a worthwhile thread.

I've been collecting audible audiobooks for the last couple years, great for my work commute. I don't think I've ever paid the normal $15 monthly membership fee (which gives you one book a month), but find membership deals from free to maybe $5 a month.

A current deal that expires tomorrow is $1.95 a month for three months from TravelZoo.

Audible is celebrating their 20th anniversary this month, with a special every day. It includes 6 free books throughout the month iirc, and one of them is today.

Today's deal in the month of deals is another free book.

And the normal deal of the day is $3.95 for The Hobbit.

picked up the Hobbit.
my wife said Dracula is only 99 cents for the audiobook if you buy the kindle version on amazon for 99 cents; so less than 2 bucks total

That is because it is a "whispersync" title. You can read then listen then read (or both at the same time) and it keeps your place across devices. Caveat: they both must be the whispersync titles. I have a few books bought years ago that will not "sync" with the audiobook for that reason. Bottom line.... make sure you get the right version of Dracula.

FYI, I bought Shogun for $1.99 a while back and added the audiobook for $3.95. Killer deal.

Re: Free/Bargain Audiobook deals

Yeah, whispersync can be confusing, as some popular books like Dracula might have dozens of kindle versions, some linked to an audible version for cheap and some not, and sometimes different audible versions as well.

This sixty cent version of Dracula appears to offer a whispersync version for example.

And fwiw, I think amazon still does a free kindle/whispersync combo every month.

FREE Audiobook at Audible

I Am Legend
By: Richard Matheson
Narrated by: Robertson Dean
Length: 5 hrs and 19 mins
Unabridged

In I Am Legend, a plague has decimated the world, and those unfortunate enough to survive are transformed into blood-thirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville's blood. By day, he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?

Audible has had thousands of freebies over the years, sometimes fairly ‘big’ authors or books at the pre-order stage. This might be one of those cases, as the latest from Michael Lewis is currently free.

That was quick. Yeah, I think most of the pre-order freebies are temporary glitches. Like maybe every pre-order is free until someone manually adjusts the price, and they just forget sometimes.

Looks free to me. I have an active account... maybe that is the reason.

^ Yep, confirmed on their homepage. It’s a limited time freebie.

Today is the last day to get a 3 month membership for just $4.95 a month, so be sure to grab that one too.

And some other month end reminders from mobileread:

Also, the Audible deal of the day is a good one. The highly rated new memoir about a North Korean defector is only $1.95 today. It was a Kindle freebie last year to boot, a Prime first reads selection iirc.
