Currently reading:

I don't really have an itch to write a screenplay, but I love seeing how the movie sausage is made. (And this one's funny, too.)

I'm working my way through these:

So far these are really not my taste, hopefully I like some of the ones I have left more than what I've read so far.

One of my favorite current writers, and books like this one don't change that. You never know what you're going to get with a China Mieville book: epic steampunk, comedic urban fantasy, young adult adventure, weird noir mystery. With Embassytown, he goes hard science fiction. But this is science concerned with ideas and philosophies, not futuristic action (though this does end up going a little alien riff on the quasi-zombie movie Pontypool) Like many of his books, it takes a bit of work on the readers part. But once you grasp the "world" and the characters, it's very rewarding.

Based on all the behind-the-scenes crap I've heard about this year's Hugo awards, it's now becoming a negative for me trying out a new author based on Hugo nominations/wins.

I can see that, but some of my favorite writers I first read after they won or were nominated for some award or other. Plenty I didn't like as well, but it's still worth it for the ones I find that I love, since I am always on the hunt for good new writers. If I read all the novels and Campbell award nominees, I usually find at least one writer that I'll start reading all their stuff. Hopefully that still happens this year in spite of all the crap (but it's apparently not going to be John C. Wright).

I consider myself kind of a spiritualist, so just started Animal Speak, by Ted Andrews. I want to work on my connection with nature.

Read this

It wasn't the greatest book ever, but it was pretty entertaining. So now on to the third one.

It was ok. Much more of a mystery than a thriller (unlike other Preston and Child books). But like all of Preston and Child's books, it was fast light reading. I'll probably move right on to the rest of this "Helen" trilogy. But I think I may be approaching my lifetime fill of these guys. Like many other series, the first few books really captured me. And then its as if the authors get in the rut of cranking out annual product for the rest of their lives.
