Anyone else enjoying The High Republic?

Read the first book, it was an interesting take. I’d like to try borrowing some of the trades when they become available at the library on as I think the visuals might help with this different time period.

I'm loving The High Republic. I've read every book they've released so far, but only a few of the comics. It's obviously so well planned out and organized. There's enough connectivity that you get a sense of it being one story as you read more, but not to the extent you'd be missing anything essential if you only read the adult novels for instance. I highly recommend The High Republic.

I've read all nine novels (the three adult novels, the three young adult novels, and the three young reader novels) and a couple of the comics and I just finished the audio script book (The Tempest Runner) today.

I've enjoyed how closely connected they are but its hard to wrap your head around 50 or so characters and keep their names, alien races, and personal links fresh in your memory. I was also surprised at how quickly they killed off some of them... and was pained when ones we've grown to love are killed.

I agree with some other readers that the story is very dark and seems like the Jedi can't catch a break... and then they end Phase I on a cliffhanger and announce that Phase II is taking place 100 years before that and leaving us hanging?!

Oh well, the first novel of Phase II, Path of Deceit by Justina Ireland and new comer Tessa Gatton, comes out this week (October 4, 2022) so we'll see where this goes.

Well, I finished all of Phase Two now and wow… it was quite a ride. I liked the focus on just a few groups of characters and loved the connections that it built to things that happened in Phase One and will happen in Phase Three.

I read the last three in the wrong order. I read Path of Vengeance first, then Quest for Planet X, and then Cataclysm. I’m not sure why I did, but still those three books picked up after The Battle for Jedha and had concurrent third acts (let’s call it “The Night of Sorrows”) that folded over each other almost seamlessly.

Now I’m going to read the comics from Phase Two and fill in the gaps.

Phase Three begins with The Eye of Darkness, an adult novel by George Mann releasing November 14, 2023.

Maybe I’ll crack into Rhythm of War while I wait. That’s been on my shelf for quite awhile. I should get back to the Cosmere. 🤓
