I was blown away by this book. A definite must read if a sci-fi fan. Need to get Fall of Hyperion soon.

I really liked it, too.

I'm a sucker for Lovecraftian stories, so this was right up my alley. Barron does an excellent job establishing interesting scenarios and building an atmosphere of dread. My quibble would be just a few too many stories just ended without any resolution (I can forgive that approach if used every now and then, but this was pretty much every story). Still, it was good enough that I'll be checking out other works by the author.

Are his novels any good?

Farnham's Freehold by Heinlein.

Heinlein tries to write a novel in the 1950s serious style. Farnham's a bully, his wife's an alcoholic pill-popper, his son has an oedipal complex, and his daughter has serious daddy issues. They have a lot of nasty arguments, except for Farhnam and his new mistress. The characters all get monologues where they bare their souls. For the second half of the book is an extended sermon that racism is bad. It describes a future when Negros rule the world and white people are the livestock.

A swing and a miss.

Finally got around to reading
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...UL._AA160_.jpg

It was pretty good, not great but a pretty entertaining and quick read (the quick was very appreciated as the book I read before it was War and Peace, which was perfectly good but took me a while to get through).

Now reading

I'm glad I didn't avoid this because of the YA classification. This is about as far away from the Twilight books as you can get.
