What Are You Reading? (November 2014)

Just Finished:

Killing Floor by Lee Child

This was the first Jack Reacher book that I have ever read and I really liked it. It was really intense!

Another subtle enigmatic moody horror story from Caitlin R. Kiernan. Those expecting a ghost story will likely be disappointed, but if you're familiar with the authors previous work where the book goes shouldn't be a surprise.

Nice. Can you post how it is when finished? I have this on my to-read shelf. Really interested in her new one, My Real Children

A good quick read. Though it's only novella length, so it doesn't seem quite fair to be charging full-book price for it.

Is this bucking the trend of each Joe Ledger book being a little worse than the preceding one?

Loved this book as well. Didn't know anything about it until I heard Andy Weir on a tech podcast where the guests were saying how great his book was. Granted this could have been the regular cheap praise, but when I looked it up, it got fantastic reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Looking forward to the movie, but it won't be as good as the book.

Spoiler:

Spoilered for large pic size...
I recently found this in among my deceased mom's library. It appears to be a 1st edition, and I've even run across a few newspaper clippings inside talking about actual witch trials that ended with death by fire. Copyright is 1913.

I'm loving this series so far. It's basically medieval ghost busting, but very gripping.

It was better than the last one, so I guess so.

Now I'm reading

Re: What Are You Reading? (November 2014)

My Kindle app just downloaded Stephen King's "Revival" so I'll be starting it up as soon as I'm done giving the new Pink Floyd an initial listen. New stuff from my favorite author and band practically the same day!

I thought it was meh. King doing a detective story which had an ending that was a total letdown.

At the start I kept hoping for Miles Vorkosigan to show up, but I got over it. The characters are a bit one-dimensional, but I enjoyed it.

Just finished reading 'The Shock of the Fall' by Nathan Filer - a haunting and powerful take on guilt, death and mental illness

Moving onto 'Mrs Hemingway' by Naomi Wood.

Very entertaining read that sets Dave and John against a new threat to the world. The story is less surreal and the tone more serious than John Dies at the End (not that that's all a bad thing). But there were still a number of laugh out loud parts for me.
