I set the Grasshopper Jungle aside. I couldn't get into it.

Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach

I liked it. It's a really good coming of age story.

Another book about Dracula films. I've already read David Skal's Hollywood Gothic, but that one mostly covers just the early films and then quickly skims over the rest. This one focuses only on the adaptations of the book, no sequels or spin-offs or anything else, from the earliest days to the most recent.

Re: What Are You Reading?(May 2014)

Just finished the first three books of James SA Corey's (pen name for two guys) "The Expanse" series:
Leviathan Wakes
Caliban's War
Abbadon's Gate

Overall, pretty good space opera stuff. The series takes place perhaps 200 years in the future and action is confined to the Solar System. The characters are pretty thin, the villains obvious, and the character beats and plot points are telegraphed about 50 pages before they happen. On the other hand, these books have tight and effective prose, strong narrative drive and minimal pretention. You could do far worse, these are perfect summer beach reading.

Re: What Are You Reading?(May 2014)

I took Lilith Saintcrow's complete Jill Kismet anthology with me on my travels during May and managed to read 5/6 of it.

It's not really something you'd carry around on an ordinary commute, so I'll have to find time to finish it off at home. Or wait for another trip.
