Re: What are you reading? (December 2012)

Decided to finally read The Hobbit and then Lord Of The Rings. Downloaded them both to the kindle. I have had the actual books for years but never cracked them open. I am half way through The Hobbit and it is really great.

Be forewarned that the first couple hundred pages of The Fellowship of the Ring is a slow build of tension. The first half of the book is mainly about lying low and trying to figure out what's going on. Peter Jackson added some action sequences to keep the average teenager interested. I was bored when I first read it as a teenager, but now I think it's great. YMMV.

It was good but there wasn't a single moment where I was worried that everything wouldn't work out exactly the way the 1 in a 1,000 plan called for.

As I posted earlier I read "The Faithless":
by one of our very own DVDTalkers and I really, really liked it (it was a political thriller I equated to Grisham but honestly was much better than the one I just finished) so now I'm going to start reading some short stories he sent me.

Turk's bio was interesting. While I consider myself a hockey fan, I had no idea on his back story, just that he was a Bruins player and later an announcer. Nor how much hockey players today owe him for their current contract status, lockout notwithstanding.

Just into Muck City, but it seems like it will be a very interesting book. Maybe not quite like FNL, but still good. (And also got a bead on another good HS football book after I make my way through the latest round of purchases.)

Re: What are you reading? (December 2012)

This finished book marks my 100th book read for the year. Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed by that.

Enjoyed it a lot. Had plenty of laughs. Dark humour on a sensitive topic.
