What are you reading? (March 2012)

New month, and new book. With my pending arrival of "Barfly" on Blu-ray (import), I thought I would dig into some of Chuck's work before getting started with that.

I am reading:

Better than I thought it would be. Really liked the back-stories of all the characters and how it all relates to living in a small town. The stories felt very Altman-esque, especially the ending.

Re: What are you reading? (March 2012)

I finished my four Raymond Chandler novels, and decided that it was time for something more upbeat.

Re: What are you reading? (March 2012)

I am reading the Border Trilogy omnibus.

All the Pretty Horses was phenomenal.

The Crossing, less so. Great story, but I never did understand why Billy left his home in the first place. Also, the endless allegorical narrations by third parties got on my nerves. The story about the preacher and the church that wouldn't fall down seems like it lasted 90 pages.

Cities of the Plain is great so far.

Excellent read. The story from the perspective of a person with dementia could have been gimmicky, but it was thoughtfully done. A mystery that doesn't rely too heavily on it being a mystery for one to enjoy.
