Re: What are you reading? (February 2012)
Finished American Desert which was pretty good, although (no pun intended) felt a bit empty near the end. Still recommended.
I also finished this:
Willy Vlautin's Motel Life (2006) which I can best describe as being in the "loser drama" genre; the story revolves around two brothers from Reno who are down on their luck. What sets this apart from most books like this it's not depressing (continually), it's just very heartfelt. Highly recommended.
Looks like they are making a movie out of it.

For a lot of these older / hard case / pulp books, where are you guys getting them? Are these being re-released, cheap on Kindle, or you get them at your local used bookstore / thrift center?
When Borders when out of business, they had a ton of Westerns like this selling for $3. I wanted to wait a week and come back when they were a $1 but I never did get back. Rats.

Library sales are a great place to get older books for cheap. Check your area. They seem to be quite frequent and are usually on Saturday mornings. Besides those, yeah I frequent a couple LBS'.

Surprisingly better than I thought a book about the lives of people working at a newspaper would be. Highly recommended.

Just read:
^(Kinda disappointed in this. Started out good but got weak toward the end. Liked the graphic novel better)
^Ridiculous plot and conclusion but very readable

I am reading Drive and Limitless (Dark Fields). Drive is a trip, because there is way more backstory to the characters than what was shown in the film.

Finished:
I enjoyed it for the popcorn type of book it was - although I thought the ending was kind of ridiculous and it ended too abruptly.
