Dear tall paperbacks...

I hate your kind will all the firey passion my eyes can muster. Just seeing you on the book shelves makes me furious. Not only are you two dollar more for no frickin reason, you're awkward to hold. I swear on this stack of regular sized paperbacks, that I shall never buy one of you, regardless of the content.

(This rant not directed at your superior cousins, the TPB)

I actually like these tall paperbacks but now that you mention it, when did this trend come about?

I like the tall paperbacks because they're cheaper than the hardbacks but have better quality paper than the mini-paperbacks.

I hate tall paperbacks because they look awkward on my bookshelf.

I think they're called "Mass Market Paperbacks," but I could be wrong (which would explain the few "tall paperbacks" on my bookshelf).

A few I've rebought in Hard Cover - for instance, I once had "Dead Man Walking" by Sister Helen Prejean in "tall paperback," then rebought it in hard cover (for a penny plus $3.99 for shipping).

I'm not sure what a "paperback" is. I'll have to ask my great-grandfather during one of his "lucid" states at the nursing home.

I assume it's just to make them stand out from the pack
