Anyone have read or children read anything by Cassandra Clare?

Notice it is a really popular sci-fi book for young adults, my wife is a 5th grade teacher and I was wondering if this would be a good series for her classroom library.

My wife's stepsister was talking up this author recently. She's very well-read, and is a freshman in college. I'll ask if she thinks they're appropriate for the 5th grade.
