You're right, I hadn't thought about the translation issues.

I did finish the book and it is very, very good. In fact, about halfway thru, I began to really like the writing style (once I adjusted to it, perhaps). I highly recommend this book! I'm looking forward to reading the second book, but first I'm taking a detour...

Now reading:

Starting Robin Hobb's Soldier's Son trilogy. I've been putting it off for a while since I've heard from a number of people that it's a let down from her previous works. But I've liked everything she's written and I should judge for myself, right?

I liked it. It is the first Vachss I have read and the first in the Burke series. I will read more Vachss after reading Flood.

Re: What are you reading? (April 2010)

Finished John Connolly's "Dark Hollow". (It has already been 6 years since I read "Every Dead Thing", the first in the Charlie Parker series!) Even though it started a little slowly, it always kept my interest as I love his writing. Sure kicked into high gear toward the end, though.

Re: What are you reading? (April 2010)

First we rented Frost/Nixon on Blu-ray from Netflix. Then, I streamed the original Watergate interview episode. It seemed serendipitous when I came across this at Half Price Books for $3.98 on the 17th. The first part is a collection of reminisces and hindsight; the second part are excerpts from the transcripts. I'm already onto the transcripts.

One caution for anyone who might be interested: Frost assumes (and probably rightly so) that if you're interested in his 30 year retrospective on those interviews, that you're already well familiarized with the key players and timeline. I'm sure the lion's share of readers know the ins and outs intimately, but given that this was published to coincide with the film's release, I do fear that the newbie reader who is beginning his or her foray into the world of Richard Nixon with this volume might be a tad intimidated.

Yeah, I'm definitely in the zone. At ~150 pages per book, they are very quick reads.

Also, how can you not be hooked when the opening sentence reads as follows: "Parker spent two weeks on the white sand beach at Biloxi, and on a white sandy bitch named Belle..."
