Michael Connelly's "The Scarecrow" 05/26/09
 

I know that there are a lot of Connelly fans on the site, and since his latest novel was just released yesterday, I was wondering if anyone has started it yet. I am just going through his Harry Bosch series, so once I take a break from that, I'll check this out (it features Jack McEvoy & Rachel Walling).

I've been waiting for his follow-up to The Poet for quite some time. Have not yet picked this up, but looking forward to reading it. :up:

FYI, The Poet is my second favorite Connelly novel (behind The Concrete Blonde).

I read it a while ago and liked it a lot. It's not as good as <I>The Poet</I>, but it's an entertaining and interesting read. Definitely recommended.

The first time that I read the Poet, I loved it. The second time, I couldn't remember why I liked it the first time around. I'll probably read it again now that I am going through all of his books. I am reading Concrete Blonde now and am really enjoying it.

I re-read <I>The Poet</I> before reading the new one and still liked it a lot. (It's a little dated in some aspects, but I thought it held up well.) I think it's one of Connelly's better works, although I still prefer some of the Bosch books to it.

The actual follow-up to The Poet is called, The Narrows. McEvoy is not the main character, Bosch is, but it ties up loose ends from The Poet.

I suggest you read that one first.

im reading all his stuff in order ( im in the middle of Concrete Blonde right now)
My biggest problem with the Harry Bosch novels is Harry bedding down the women in each one like James Bond..takes away from the authenticity of the stories IMO.

Does Bosch get laid a lot? I don't remember that... It must taper off in the later books. Of course, he's getting older. :)

(But is it that hard to believe the guy could get a woman on occasion?)

I agree with Deke Rivers, I found that odd as well, especially since he is such a loner. I am through about half of the books in the series, and his prowess has slowed down. I find that romantic stuff often takes away from the story.

I watched those videos I posted after I posted them here, and they are pretty cheesy. It's good that Connelly wanted to give people some extras, but I just found them pretty bad. I think that there are two references to The Scarecrow within those videos though.

Thanks for mentioning this as I haven't read Bosch in a long time. I liked the Poet when I read it years ago, the Narrows wasn't as good. Fwiw, whenever he has sex I always picture a slightly skinnier Dennis Franz. But I usually gloss over those sections.

I always picture Bosch as Connelly, since from what I remember in a description of him, he sorta sounded like Connelly looks.

My mental image of Bosch is something like Nick Nolte in Q&A. (An excellent film, by the way, for those who haven't seen it.)

From wikipedia (so take it with a grain of salt):

As to Bosch's physical appearance, he has a moustache and has brown hair that is by now graying. Bosch's eyes are the other key aspect of appearance; they are brown and nearly black, and were mentioned often for this reason in A Darkness More Than Night. Connelly gives a good clue as to how he visualizes Bosch when in The Overlook Rachel Walling tells Bosch that "You look like House" (actor Hugh Laurie).
