Have you read other Simmons' novels? I read The Terror a couple of years ago and really liked it. Plan on reading Drood too. Let me know how it goes.

Lord Dunsany, Time and the Gods, Gollancz Press. Not to be confused with the book Time and the Gods, which is contained in this volume. This is an omnibus edition that contains six of Dunsany's books of short stories. I've finished The Book of Wonder, and I've started A Dreamer's Tales.

I've read everything by Simmons. Halfway thru Drood right now. If you liked The Terror you should like this. The 4 Hyperion novels are my favorites with The Terror next. He doesn't write in any one genre. He's done hardboiled crime, historical(Crook Factory), horror, Sf.

Re: What are you reading? (February 2009)

I just finished Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane, and I must say, I was quite unimpressed with it. I thought that it was predictable and had it figured out pretty early. I won't make any comparisons now for spoilers sake, but there are similar stories and movies out there that cover the same basic plot, and do it better. I read it because of all of the buzz about the movie coming out with Leo DiCaprio, so I hope the movie is better than the book.
