Tom Rob Smith's CHILD 44
Halfway through this Cold War/serial-killer thriller, and I'm really impressed. One of those compulsively readable books you don't want to put down.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg Anyone else read it? It seemed to come out of nowhere--a huge print run featured all over Sam's Club and consuming whole tables at B&N and Borders. The publisher must have had high hopes, and at least for this reader, it's living up to them. Here's a video interview with the author about how the book evolved: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JtJFeSCf70I&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JtJFeSCf70I&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> |
I saw this last weekend at Barnes & Noble with a whole table of the books - I picked up a copy and it looked great. Sadly, I'm on a tight budget and will have to wait until this comes out in paperback to read it.

I read the EW review just the other day -- first I had heard about it -- it piqued my interest.

This book has been massively hyped for a while now -- but clearly not very effectively! :)
I read it some time ago and enjoyed it. It really brings Stalinist Russia alive in a palpable and depressing way. |
