One & Only Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows thread [possible spoilers - duh!]

I'm in a section of the book business and just finished reading the book during my second break - fantastic - that's all I'll say. The final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort is quite a scene. The last two chapters are a real thrill ride and the unexpected
Spoiler:
"epilogue" that jumps the whole story a few years forward wraps the whole saga up perfectly. (and some what leaves the door open for a future series and/or spin-off.)

OK, the time for speculaton and news must be about over so I've closed that thread. Of course the final tour thread remains open for anyone waiting for the official publication date but who feels the need to expound upon the topic.

BTW, if Doctor Gonzo is having a Groucho moment I will devise a suitable punishment for him/her/it/

The book isn't due out for another 10 days, and you have already finished reading it? How did you get it so soon?

.... and, as I said, a ghastly punishment is in store for anyone having a "funny" with fellow BookTalkers.

Now, let's reserve this for when people have read the book and leave the chit-chat for the other threads....

...And if anyone really needs to know the ending and can't stand to wait any longer... (or just has a casual interest) email me and I'll spill the beans for you.

Does he live? Does he die?

Just ask the doctor!

God I'm going to have such a hard time reading the book in total isolation to avoid happening into anything early. I just hope I can make it through the next 8.5 days unscathed.

And with that, I won't be coming back into this thread until I'm done as a precaution.

Kvrdave ruined it for me! I'm so pissed! There is no way I would have ever guessed Snape was Harry's mother in a polyjuice disguise this whole time..grr.

Instead of two major characters getting killed off, wouldn't it be cool if rowling surprised everyone by killing Harrys annoying Aunt and Uncle?

That's what I am hoping for. The previous books pointed out that the charm protecting the Dursley house wears off the seventh year. I am hoping that then Voldemort will attack the house and kill the Dursleys.

Hey doctor, just for my peace of mind I found these supposed pictures of the last chapter of Deathly Hallows. Is it real? http://rateyourmusic.com/board_messa...599#msg1053599

If it's not, then it was probably put together by the same people who did these scans of the table of contents since both sets show the epilogue starting on page 753.

05 - 063 - Fallen Warrior
06 - 086 - The Ghoul in Pajamas
07 - 111 - The Will of Albus Dumbledore
08 - 137 - The Wedding
09 - 160 - A Place to Hide
10 - 176 - Kreacher's Tale
11 - 201 - The Bribe
12 - 223 - Magic Is Might
13 - 246 - The Muggle-born Registration Commission
14 - 268 - The Thief
15 - 284 - The Goblin's Revenge
16 - 311 - Godric's Hollow
17 - 330 - Bathilda's Secret
18 - 350 - The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore
19 - 363 - The Silver Doe
20 - 388 - Xenophilius Lovegood

Uh according to supposed spoiler
Spoiler:
Ron and Ginny have three kids. As another poster on that forum said "That's sick". I highly doubt Rowling is going to write about incest.

It has to be fake.

I think whoever originally reported back on the epilogue didn't read it very closely.

The person who posted the synopsis has since edited his post and acknowledged the mistake.

Don't really remember the exact chapter names, but that one link to the site that had the spoilers was pretty right on. here's how it all ends up, details of the epilogue below... proceed with caution!

Spoiler:
the epilogue is titled "19 years later" and has harry and ginny at the train station getting their oldest child off to hogwarts, one of his younger kids protests that he, too, wants to go, harry explains that he must wait until he is a bit older. Up walks ron and hermione, who are there to get one of their kids off to school as well, after some small talk, a dark figure steps out from the shadows, it's draco, also there to see his child off to hogwarts. Ron loads his kids suitcase and owl onto the train and informs his child (rose or rosie I think it is) that it would be best to avoid the young malfoy, and that he is glad she got her mothers brains. it all ends with harry walking along the platform bidding his child good-bye as the train pulls away....

So Ron and Hermoine finally get it on? It's about time. I am kind of disappointed that one of the big three (Harry, Ron, Hermoine) didn't die. I was expecting at least one to die.

So is the scar a horocrux? I always had a theory that when Voldy attempted to kill Harry, he accidentally turned him into a horocrux via the scar instead.

The publishers have really fallen down on security this time. Not only does it now appear that the table of contents and epilogue are online, but there's a file floating around containing pictures (not scans, but photos of each page) of the first half of the book. If it's a hoax, it's damned elaborate -- almost 500 pages of text, printed out, typeset, bound, and illustrated in the Grand Pre style. But if it's genuine ... wow. All I've got to say is "Chapter Four."

I can guess why it happened: there was a post on the Potter fan website The Leaky Cauldron (which is highly respected even by J. K. Rowling herself) mentioning that Scholastic allowed librarians to catalog the books before 21 July, 2007. It appears someone may have bribed an unscrupulous librarian, got a copy of the book, and scanned in pages using a flatbed scanner.

Now the question is why? The book is out in 4 days. What would possess a person the urge to do this? What do they hope to get out of it? They probably can't say who they are or it could be traced back to who broke security.

The amount of time that it took to scan in 500 pages must have been hours & hours if not days. Their life must totally suck if they can't find something better to do with their time.

I could see scanning in the last pages to show who is alive at the end, but the whole thing?

They didn't even scan the pages -- these are photos taken with a digital camera, so you can see the guy's hands holding the book open. There are a few pages that are unreadable because the focus is bad.

Not that I'm reading it or anything.

I have some contacts and have read it as well. The above information is all pretty accurate.

More epilogue information:
Spoiler:
In the epilogue Harry and Ginny's children are named James, Albus Severus, and Lily. The middle one's middle name is quite interesting as well. And as I recall Ron and Hermione's children are named Rose and Hugo. Draco's child (unnamed wife) is Scorpius. Do we know who Victoire is? It says a cousin but I was not sure whose? Oh and Neville is the Herbology professor at Hogwarts.

If the leaked copy is more or less what we'll see Saturday, I'm glad that--

Spoiler:
J K Rowling was true to her word from a talk at a booksigning in 1999 and let Harry, Ron and Hermione live. There would have been ridiculous outcry if any of the trio died in this book, making Rowling the most infamous English-language author since Arthur Conan Doyle, who tried to kill off the Sherlock Holmes character.
