Seriously, I haven't had much desire to read any HCC books lately. I find myself reading them in bulk. The last time I got interested in the line, I read 4-5 in two weeks. I'm sure I'll wake up one morning and tear through a bunch of these again. |
I stumbled across a couple of these at a Big Lots today for $2 each. Only titles I found were Straight Cut and Little Girl Lost. I have no idea if this is a widespread thing or not, but could be worth checking.
|
Hrm, i will have to check out my local Big Lots. I need both those titles.
I got my book club book this afternoon. The Murderer Vine sounds kind of cool, i may actually read it before Spiderweb/whatever the other one was called. |

About 73 pages in already. It's a real page turner...

A little note from Charles Ardai...
************* On Monday, May 5, if you tune to the "Fresh Air" program on National Public Radio (NPR), you'll catch a feature interview with me about Hard Case Crime and my books, in particular SONGS OF INNOCENCE. (Warning: There may be some plot spoilers...) To find out what time "Fresh Air" is broadcast in your neck of the woods, visit www.npr.org; and if you miss the broadcast, you should also be able to find a recording of the interview posted on NPR's Web site starting on Monday. In other news, we recently signed an agreement to reprint best-selling (and Edgar Award-winning) author Peter Blauner's CASINO MOON, a tale of the Atlantic City Mob and the seedy business of boxing -- and to paint the cover we've got the great Ricky Mujica, who is not only an enormously gifted painter but also a former Golden Gloves boxer. We're very excited about this one. |
Hey guys - I recently read A Diet of Treacle. I must be in the minority, but I really liked it. Sure the plot was thin, but I was engaged from page 1 and finished it in a couple sittings. Reading Money Shot now...
|
Here's the NPR interview.
|
Blauner's Casino Moon is an odd choice for a reprint, isn't it? It's only about 15 years old. Heck, I remember buying the hardcover when it came out.
|
Yeah, I thought that was kind of an odd choice, too. (It came out in '94.) I wonder if this means the more typical reprint supply is drying up.

New book's up on the HCC website.
http://hardcasecrime.com/books/bk52/cover_big.jpg THE CORPSE UNDER THE CHAGALL Once an art smuggler, now a respectable art dealer, Ovid Wiley awoke to find his former partner stabbed to death on his gallery floor. That was strange enough—but when a CIA agent showed up to spring him from NYPD custody, things got a lot stranger. Now the CIA is offering to clear up the murder charge, but only in return for a favor: They want Ovid to fly to Vatican City and trace the trail of a renegade priest who has gone missing with millions in church funds. What’s the connection? The priest’s lover, a woman Ovid knew in his smuggling days... First publication ever! Manuscript was lost among Zelazny’s papers for more than 30 years; this is the only new Zelazny novel since the author's death more than a decade ago Zelazny is the hugely popular author of the "Amber" series of fantasy novels and classics such as Lord of Light, Damnation Alley, and My Name Is Legion Zelazny won 6 Hugo Awards and 3 Nebula Awards, and was nominated a record 14 times for each Acclaim for Roger Zelazny... "Genuinely moving." — New York Times "Tricky and brilliant and heartfelt and dangerous." — Neil Gaiman "Reading Zelazny is like dropping into a Mozart string quartet as played by Thelonious Monk." — Greg Bear Despite the big head on the guy in white, I think this is another stellar cover, too. Love the midriff on the damsel in distress. |
Zelazny is an interesting addition, but I don't think much of that cover at all.
|
I hate the cover, but I'm really looking forward to the book.

The book with the fine-print title is hitting stores! Watch for it!

Now this is one cool cover:
http://hardcasecrime.com/books/bk53/cover_big.jpg SOME PEOPLE WILL DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY Mavis St. Paul had been a rich man’s mistress. Now she was a corpse. And every cop in New York City was hunting for the two-bit punk accused of putting a knife in her. But the punk was innocent. He’d been set up to take the fall by some cutie who was too clever by half. My job? Find that cutie—before the cutie found me. The MWA Grandmaster's first novel—published for the first time ever under the title he originally intended it to have! When originally published as THE MERCENARIES, the book was nominated for the Edgar Award for Best First Novel Westlake has won three Edgar Awards and received numerous other honors, including an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay of "The Grifters" Raves for the work of Donald E. Westlake... "Dark and delicious." — New York Times "Westlake’s ability to construct an action story filled with unforeseen twists and quadruple-crosses is unparalleled." — San Francisco Chronicle "Westlake is one of the best crime writers in the business." — Los Angeles Times |
 The cover art for the Cutie is awesome. I'm looking forward to that one.
|
I read about half of <I>Somebody Owes Me Money</I>, but I didn't find the story very interesting. It wasn't bad, but not good enough for me to want to keep reading.
