Stephen King's "Blaze" (as Bachman)

I have found a novel by the late Richard Bachman written in 1972/73, that I thought was lost. I found it—or rather, Ms. Mod found it—and I am hoping to publish it in 2007, with royalties going to The Haven Foundation. To whet your appetite, here are the first two chapters.

LOL

While it's true that King has had a fairly busy "retirement", this isn't exactly proof of it. Blaze is actually an unpublished novel he wrote in the 70's. He submitted to DoubleDay at the same time as Salem's Lot and they choose Salem's Lot and Blaze went on the shelf. There's some more backstory on it and a plot synopsis at this link http://charnelhouse.tripod.com/blaze.html

This sounds exactly like the kind of story I wish Stephen King would concentrate on all the time! I'm excited.

His retirement referred to him being under contract with a publisher to produce a certain amount of material for the life of the contract, he never said he was retiring from writing.

Update:

Scribner has announced that they will be publishing the first-written but last-recovered Richard Bachman novel titled BLAZE, on June 12, 2007.

Can't wait for this book. Any early reviews yet?

djmont 06-10-07 10:54 AM

I read it a while back and enjoyed it. It's an entertaining, literary-lite noir novel. Certainly worth reading, if you like this kind of story. (I haven't read any of the other Bachman books, so I can't compare it to those.)

My full review should run next Sunday in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Do you have a link to your review? Thanks

Thanks! Great review. I am looking forward to reading it.

i'm enjoying this book. Picked it up to read on Saturday, and I'm already almost done with it on Monday. I'll be finished for sure by Wednesday (I know its not a race, but it is a testament of how good this is). This is the kind of stuff King should be writing about now, instead of what he's been writing lately. I know the book is old, and it shows. Its Classic King!

Bring on more "trunk novels," if you please, sir!
