BookMooch.com: Book swapping site
First there was Lala for swapping CDs -- and the requisite DVD Talk threads ( pt. 1 and pt. 2). Now there's a book swapping site, Book Mooch, that functions essentially the same way, only there's no service-driven charges. You simply pay regular USPS shipping costs, however you choose to send it: book rate, first class, priority, whatever.
Their database runs through Amazon, so anything listed there can be added to your "have" and "want" lists. You can also swap overseas and enter printings from other countries, which is a feature Lala is lacking so far. There's even an option to donate your earned points to charities so that hospitals, child care, etc. can receive free books if they're signed up for the site.
Working at a bookstore, I actually tend to borrow more than I buy, but there are a few things I've listed and have seen response on already. Seems cool so far! :) |
