What Are You Reading? July 2006/[49]
I'm currently reading Philip K Dick's "The Zap Gun".
Either I never read it before - unlikely - or I've not yet reached the more memorable section. |
Just finished
Until I find you - John Irving - Excellent and The Lincoln Lawyer - Michael Connelly very good also doing a third read through Robert Crais' Cole/Pike novels Hmmm Zap Gun - good idea - I'll unearth the ChipDip K Kill* collection and start those! *See The Steam Driven Boy by John Sladek -smile- |
Aside from comics, King/Straub's The Talisman and The Black House.
|
There's a lot of Dick in this thread!
I'm still working on: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...igh-Castle.png & http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...gmata-of-P.png |
reading Steven Kings CELL right now
|
Just finished Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby. I laughed my ass of the whole time. Its a great read for any sports fan.
Started Marley & Me last night. As a proud owner of an off-the-wall male yellow lab, its already hitting pretty close to home. Next up is A Long Way Down, also by Hornby or Absolute Friends by John Le Carre. |
<i>Prisoner's Dilemma</i> by William Poundstone
<i>The Politics of Congressional Elections</i> by Gary Jacobson <i>Strategy and Choice in Congressional Elections</i> by Gary Jacobson and Samuel Kernell <i>Patterns of Democracy</i> by Arend Lijphart |
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I wanted a good epic fantasy series to read, and this one sounded like a safe bet from all the gushing praise I've read here over the years. |
I'm reading Startide Rising by David Brin.
|
|
I've finally got around to reading the a scanner darkly.
|
|
|
Just finished reading Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. Just started reading Lullaby, also by Chuck.
|
Just finished:
http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/cov...0843955910.jpg which was a great little pulp story. I hope that Bruen and Starr collaborate again at some point. Now reading: http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/cov...0446616451.jpg About 100 pages into it and it's classic Connelly. Lots of detail, great dialogue and some great characters. After that I'm gonna hopefully get to: http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/cov...0061013579.jpg |

Sort of a punk 'Crime and Punishment', at its best when it isn't ranty. Goed's life story would have been compelling enough, but he tends to truly mess things up when he goes off on a complete page after page rant. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=as2&path=ASIN/1932595139&tag=dvdtalk&camp=1789&creative=9325"><img border="0" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1932595139.01._AA_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg"></a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=dvdtalk&l=as2&o=1&a=1932595139" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> A FANTASTIC BOOK. Absolutely LOVED it!! One of my top books so far this year. |
Just finished "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy and will start on "Freakonomics"
|

Nearing the end of this one. It’s fantastic! This guy has gradually moved me from a strict diet of sci fi to other genres. (sci fi still rules, though) When I save up, I’m buying region free player just so I can buy the BBC mini series of this. (Read this one in the middle at the hospital.) http://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/image...sbn=0880016140 |
Half way through Velocity by Dean Koontz and starting A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking after that.
|
|
I just finished:
http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/cov...0061013579.jpg Enjoyed it, but like most autobiographies it was pretty much self serving. I'm now listening to an audio book, but it's quite a unique one: http://www.booksamillion.com/bam/cov...0312312601.jpg Bruce hired actors to play the other characters in the novel and Bruce himself narrates the book. It works very well and is absolutely hilarious. Can't wait to finish it. |
A must read for anyone who likes an old fashioned Sherlock Holmes-type detective stroy. It's about a retired NYC detective now living a quite life in a small cottage outside of the West Point Military academy. However in is enlisted in solving a brutal murder when a cadet is found hanging from a tree with his heart cut out. However the detective cannot solve the crime alone, he enlists the help of a weird, drunk, yet brilliant young cadet who is Edgar Allen Poe.
